Today i decided to wire up the box and test listen BEFORE i go through the trouble of making it look good. Not to happy so far

The 6th order bandpass sounded ok but output is kinda weak. 3" ports have too much turbulance. The box was originally designed with 4" port tubes but i didn't have as much space as i thought with all the different angles. So i dropped to 3's and it looked ok on paper. Anyway, i was feeling kinda bummed so i started redesigning it as a 4th order. Getting bass in the open air is hard, i bet it's 1000 times better in a hatchback car LOL! Even my ported (test bench) box that sounds pretty good doesn't make a lot of bass sitting in the back. Anyway, right now, i am waiting for sealant to dry on the new ports and some of the air leaks i identified. Air leaks can make a drastic difference in BP performance so i am hoping that helps too.

It SHOULD sound good but l might have to rely on the I-beams to reinforce the bass response for those sitting in the vehicle. I put one in each rear seat today so everyone riding gets to feel the bass as well as hear it i THINK the 4th will be better but if it doesn't sound at LEAST good enough to offset the weight i am giving up, i might just leave it out and go full Rockford I-beam and call it done. Those things REALLY sound like bass, with NO woofer. It wouldn't be ME without at least some woofers though. This open air thing sucks ass! I hope my new windshield (coming Tuesday) will trap some of it. I might even consider doing the rear glass too (plexi of course) if that means i can get a LITTLE gain. Time will tell.

Feel free to run the new numbers - I feel its good but after the sealant dry's ill find out.

4th Order

3 chambers.

outside 2 chambers are sealed and about .7 cubes (each) after displacement.

the center chamber is 2.2 cubes after displacement and (4) 3" round ports 8.5" long.

it doesn't have as much bandwith as the 6th did but has a lot more output in it's range.

anyway, i need to take my mind off this stuff for a night and relax. My brain hurts.

i used term-cad. I also use Bassbox Pro 6. I usually run the numbers in both for verification. I design the physical dimensions on paper, a napkin, a piece of cardboard or maybe even on the wood i am using for the box itself though. Sometimes i use my old Roof-Cad program to design the actual drawing i drew on paper, to actual scale to make sure it will fit where it is going to be placed. My chicken scratch doesn't always scale down to the way it is supposed to actually look so i sometimes clean it up with that third program. I SUCK at Google sketch up or i would use that.

Steve, first let me say it looks great. The open air boxes really suck at output.....lol. I had a jeep wrangler back in the day, that didn't have a/c so the top was off 90% of the summer. Down side was there was no bass with the normal box. The best thing I came up with that worked and gave decent bass with it all open, was a down firing box that had ports out the top. Dunno if it's possible here, but just thought I'd share what worked for me.
