TG717
First things first, the noob under my name is legit. This will be my first box build. I have a 2001 ford focus hatchback (zx3) Plans are a single 15 inch sub. Moat likely a soundqubed hds315. Powering that with a q1 1200. Did a rough measurement and came up with 39 inches of width 19 inches in height and 16 inches deep to work with. I need any help i can get. Anyone who has owned/played with a zx3, any suggestions or tips are appreciated.
Cj Kumz
Hatchbacks work quite well with sub up and port back but in your case you have limited space (16inches depth), so I would suggest sub up port up. You can go with height 19, width 39 and depth 16. Then port height 14.5 by width 4.5, that will give you port area of about 65sq inches. Then a port length 25 inches which will tune you to around 36hz. Make sure you add an extra baffle infront. So with those dimensions you will end up with a 4ft3 box which should work well with the power you putting. This is based on 3/4 mdf board. My mate has sub up port up in his golf and I sounds great Vw Polo Pioneer Deh-6050UB Sundown Saz-3500d DD Audio 9500 15'' 5.5 cubic feet box with 10 inch port @ 38hz I live to hear the Bass drop!!! Joe X
So here is a suggestion, power: to sub rated, amp subsonic filter to 28Hz, port clearance 4", figure is just an assembly guide, try port driver's side first:

TG717
Just took some better measurements. I got 37 inches wide, 18 inches depth and height is negotiable. 18-22 inches will be fine. I did go with the soundqubed hds315. Just one single 15. I would like both port and sub to be facing upwards. I got these numbers off of soundqubeds website. They are the recommended sizing for a single 15 inch. Not too sure what the numbers even mean. I think I read they should be tuned to around 34-37hz. 35hz would be fine with me. 3.00^ft (3-4) 8" or (2) 10" or (1) 15" 48.0 sq" vent x 20" long 3.25^ft (4) 8" or (2) 10" or (1) 15" 52.0 sq" vent x 20" long 3.50^ft (4) 8" or (2) 12" or (1) 15" 56.0 sq" vent x 20" long 3.75^ft (3) 10" or (2) 12" or (1) 15" 60.0 sq" vent x 19.5" long 4.00^ft (3) 10" or (2) 12" or (1) 15" 64.0 sq" vent x 19" long Ive learned a little bit reading lately but still need plenty of help. TG717
Ive talked with Dave from High Output Enclosures and he suggest doing sub up, port towards hatch. A lot of you on here suggested both up. Any opinions on this?
Nightshade
Best output in the car will be sub up port to the drivers side. Do not fire both sub and port up it is a waste of your time. Ive done pretty much every combination of sub and port placement in the car and sub firing up and port on the side of the box firing into the drivers side wheel well will be the loudest, best sounding setup in the vehicle. I did a build with a single 15 in my 2001 Zx3 that did a 152.6 sealed on the dash. alaskanzx5
Wheel well to wheel well is 40" bottom depth 30" top depth max is 19" but if you go any wider then roughly 36" you can only go to roughly 16-18" depending height. If you cut/remove the rear trim pieces that cover the seat belts then you can go the full 40" wide 22" height and up to roughly 17" deep. for a single 15 you cam easily fit that port to driver side. Something like 30" wide x 20" tall and 17" deep with a single.6-8" round port or a slot port that's 15.5" x 3.5-4.5". those ate just rough guesses on measurements and you would need to tweak them. listen to nightshade though, he did some impressive things with a focus. t1500bdcp 2 t2d4 15" 1 t600.4 1 t400.2 1 set p1 tweets singer alt, tons of wiring, smd vm-1, 80prs, back seat delete, still in the works, aiming for a 145-147 with the ability to play 25hz up to 50hz. Joe X
Ive talked with Dave from High Output Enclosures and he suggest doing sub up, port towards hatch. A lot of you on here suggested both up. Any opinions on this? You gave 16" deep max in your OP, that would barely fit the sub firing up, in that case port up was the only possibility.
