gckless
So drilling through plexiglass is tedious. Took me more than an hour to do just these 16 holes. Can't let the bit get too warm or it will melt it, can't spin it too fast or push too hard or you won't get anywhere before it melts, and you have to be careful when exiting the other side to not chip it. Went out and bought a glass/tile bit, was about halfway through and this happened: Shoot. So, went with what I heard was the next best option, a standard spade bit. Worked well, no issues. Bought 1/4" hex bolts to secure it. "Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand. timc31610
Would it help to use water with the glass/tile bit? gckless
Would it help to use water with the glass/tile bit? With either the glass or spade bit it will probably help keep it cool. Has to be running water though, standing water won't do much. Just take your time and allow the bit to cool. Basically, if it's hot enough to where you can't touch it, it's too hot. Triticum Agricolam
I used a regular twist drill bit and my drill press to drill the holes for the window I did. I took my time, used a slow speed, and cleared the bit out a lot, but it worked well. I hear you can modify regular twist bits on a grinder to work better for drilling acrylic.
