timc31610 Posted June 19, 2014 Report Posted June 19, 2014 While dry ice would be cool to play with, C02 has a higher density than air and would be cold which would add to that density putting alot of strain on the subs which would work harder creating more heat and negating any possible cooling affect it may have. I could cut my baffle, but, to hell with that. If i go that far, its all coming out, and a 4th order with 2 more subs will go in. So, it is what it is, and ill just monitor it. That was the entire point of this thread. My brain saw it the same way. Also, lower play would move the cone more, ya know, area wise, but, higher, would move it faster. So, isnt that a wash also? Seems that way, although longer excursion pushes the air further out of the port allowing it to mix with air outside the box than a shorter faster motion would. Excursion does not control air movement inside a port. At the point in which the most air is moving is the tuned frequency. The amount of Port area is mostly determined by cone area and tuning, with Xmax being for the allowance of the maximum. If you cut low on port area you are not allowing more air in you are forcing less air to moving to fast to be controlled. With the correct port area you will get the correct volume of air (more mass = better heatsink) moving in a controlled fashion. If you cut the area you sacrifice all that and then you face the problems of worse port compression and increased power compression; both of these affects will DRASTICALLY change the T/S Parameters of the driver(s) in question for the worse and will need an enclosure designed around the parameters of the sub(s) with a hot coil and other movies from mass along with new magnetic properties instead of the cold measured parameters.
