How hot is it when your at 13.5v? Are you using agm or lead batteries?*edit* sorry just seen your post confirming battety type

I live in hawaii and the weather is constantly hot,100f minimum in my trunk daily,switching to agm got me charging at 14v as they have less internal resistance than lead acid. Also,if your gonna stick with the two sq2200's,then your probably looking at 2 1500rms sub or 1 3000 rms sub. You could go with a higher rated sub,but if your voltage drops to 13v full tilt and you get crazy impedance rise from limited air space then you will probably only see 40% of what those amps could really do.

I have two 3500.1 which are rated at 4200@1ohm. The most i ever clamped it was 5k @ 3.5 ohms for both amps, voltage dropping to low 13's. That is why i wont automatically buy a sub rated exactly at the amps numbers,there are way more variables that come into play.

I live in Houston, TX and it get's hot as hell. Humid as well. A lot like Hawaii, as I got married there and I noticed the weather pattern was about the same. I was speaking to Zach yesterday about the voltage issue and told me to call Mechman. Mechman says I can put a AVBM on the alternator 4 plug and turn up the charging voltage. I'm not crazy about that idea, but I may give it a try.

To answer your questions, I'm running AGM batteries. They made a WORLD of difference when I put them in. When i was running lead acid, I was seeing voltage drops of almost 1.5 volts. With the AGM's, I only see about .5 volt full tilt. I will never see a consistant 14 volt reading with my car/alternator. I've seen 14.1 before, but only for a split second. Then the computer kicks in and drops it back to 13.46-13.55. It pisses me off, but not much I can do. The batteries did help a ton though. I realize I'm not going to see 4400RMS out of my setup, but I'm thinking more like 3500RMS. I just bought a clamp meter this past weekend and I will post on this thread what my "one" Q2200.1 is doing. I will update... Maybe the HDC3's are still the obvious choice? I still really like the Ethos space requirements. I can always add another battery or two, to try and keep my voltage as close to 13.5 as possible. Will a capacitor help at all? One of those digital hybrid ones?

How does one measure for impedance rise and calculate that into their setup? Would it be safe to run a nominal 1ohm setup on my strapped 2200's? Maybe it will be better to keep the amps apart? Do I lose anything in the "strapping" process? I appreciate all the responses... Trying to learn a little here.

Everyone has impedance rise. It is just the nature of subwoofers in small boxes. Cam be measured with a dmm on a SPECIFIC frequency. If you have the supporting electrical then 1ohm strapped should work. Honestly i have never strapped the 2200's before so idk if they hold up. But if you have a H/O alt and 300ah+ of battety, then i dont see the problem.

Alright guys, I had my multimeter with me while I was on sales calls today. Can't wait to get home to clamp my amp and see what I'm making at clipping. So, I thought I was rolling around at 13.5. Turns out, I'm rolling around at 13.9. Now, when I was playing Decaf and Bass Mechanik, my voltage drop was (the lowest I saw) 12.82. Most of teh music, the voltage was dropping to 13-13.2. So, I guess what this tells me is that I will need AT LEAST one more battery, but probably two when I add the second 2200.1D.

I'm not damaging anything by running in the high 12's, am I? Other than losing output? What's the best way to keep my voltage in the 13's with the strapped amps? More battery's? Add a cap? All the above? I'm still stuck on what sub/s i'm going to buy. If I need to add another 2 batteries, I will definitely need some trunk space. This is making the Ethos look more and more attractive.

A battery that rests at 12.8 won't help you stay in the 13's.

12.8 is good. If your trying to stay in 13/14v range its not gonna happen with 12v batteries and a 200a alt. After voltage sag ,current load & heat resistance you will be in the 12's. Our amps can dig down into 9.5v if im not mistaken.

14v is gonna require a 16v regulator,14v batteries & 12v step down module. Yeah,thats well easily over 1k$

Just a daily beater that wants to get loud and piss a few people off in the process. Now, back to the subs. If I can get DSS to contact me back, they might get a freaking order. If it was SoundQubed, Kyle would have already emailed and called me to make sure all was good... hmmm those HDC's are starting to look good again. I wish they didn't take so much damn space to sound good. I wonder if I can get the HDC3 10's to WAAAANG!? Tune to 33-34 in 4 cubes net and let'm rip...

I had 2 HDC3 10s on an AQ3500 in my truck. They got loud. 3.2 cubes tuned to 36hz. I would do the DSSs though. Just be patient.
