Car leaked oil and now my engine knocks...

Recommended Posts

If you dont use premium already, try a fillup with 93 or 91, whatever you got there.

Since Duck wants to get all technical, a true knock is a combustion related issue, not a mechanical one. Also known as pre-detonantion. Higher octane fuels can sometimes cure this.

cause rods never knock lol

So i just went through this recently. My car is known for rod knock and i have used thicker oil to where the knock is almost gone. I ran into the same problem you have, sadly it was my bearings and crankshaft. Take off your lower oil pan and check out your bearings just to check it out. No oil it usually ruins the bearings and over time it can ruin the crank.

The spot with least resistance LOL.

I would ground to a rubber dildo if it had less resistance than a run of 4/0 wiring.

how many poeple work there 3 or 4 lol

At crescendo HQ? probably 2-3

At the sweatshop in china? 30,000 children

Ticks are lifter noise and knocks are rod bearings.

A knock or a tick can be many things they are not just limited to rods and lifters. Just recently I worked on a Ford windstar for a friend it had one of the worst ticks you've ever heard. Anybody want to guess what it was? I'll give you one clue it was not a lifter but the noise was in the top end.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Stuck valve contacting piston?

Broken valve spring?

Just gave it a good listen. The knock (and I do say knock not tick) is as pronounced on the bottom of the engine as it is on the top. It is also loudest towards the back of the engine.

Pull the pan and check the connecting rods near the back of the engine first and see if you can feel any excessive play in them.

As long as you don't spin a bearing you'll get away with just replacing them with new stock sized bearings.

Likely a bearing. Might be able salvage it, depending on what bearings are available for the motor. You'd need thicker ones to compensate for the play created by damage.

You need to get the oil pan off and have a Mopar guy check the rod bearings for play.
