How to fix this subwoofer motor

Recommended Posts

The pole isnt shifted, the top plate is.

Its easy to fix, but a pain if you never done it.

Your going to need some long screws the same thread as the holes to mount the basket (3 usually works).

Going to have to screw them in with a drill going in increments from screw to screw and the top plate will start to lift up.

Once your able to get your fingers between the top plate and magnets you can then usually pull it off.

once you have it off, your going to want to clean off any old adheshive on top of the magnets and the bottom side of the the top plate.

Your going to have to find something to evenly shim the top plate out so that the gap is going to be equal all the way around the pole piece.

Sometimes PVC tube will work well, sometimes you need to cut it down into thinner strips. (you may need to add thin carboard shims with the pvc to make it a tight even fit all the way around.

You dont want any slop.

For doing it the easiest way stick the pvc shims around the pule and set the top plate on and see where your at and how much more you need to shim it out to be as centered as possible.

Once you get that done you can take the top plate off again, and set your shims aside, and use some glue to put it back together.

CA glue would work, otherwise 2 part expoxy with a long open time is your best bet.
Once you have evenly applied glue around the top of the magnet slug you can then reinsert your shims, and get ready to put the top plate on again.

Make sure you have the screws out far enough so your fingers dont get smashed between the magnet and top plate. then slowly start backing out the screws which will lower the topplate onto the magnet.

Once you got the screws out, leave the motor to sit over night and allow the glue to cure.

Also make sure you dont put any glue too close to the inside edge of the magnet slugs because it will ooze out a little and you dont want it to ooze onto your shims and gluing those into the gap permanently!

So thanks to you I fixed it real quickly. I used the 2 part epoxy FI sent with the compression plug [20140711_021840_zpsll7jra95.jpg[20140711_021848_zpsul819rrp.jpg[20140711_021922_zpsiiaj629e.jpg

Damn, that was pretty quick ;)

Its not really that hard of a thing to do, after you do it a few times it gets even quicker. Done it to about 8 different woofers for people.

Really no need to send it off for someone else to do such a simple task and pay labor, and shipping both ways. :D
