wrathchild281 Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Hey guys I was planning on doing 4 10 hds310s in a ported box on 5k and I'm wondering if I should do 8 10 inch L7 's but sealed. Theoretically should they should sound about the same on the meter and would the 8 10s move more air? This is for a daily setup, thanks 225 Excessive Amperage Alt. 4 Yellow top batteries Pioneer AVH-6600 Kicker KQ5 2 FI 18 BTL's fully loaded 2 zx 2500.1's 4 ks6.5 coaxials 4 ks5.25 coaxials kx650.4 http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2358078
TDZ13 Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Whom did you hear said "theory" about those being the same on the meter? Whoever told you this need to be given a swift kick directly into the dick. Anyways, what vehicle will either setup be going in? evermaxx Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 L7 dont like sealed boxes imo Team Subsonic Lows Get your garbage EMF products of my amp bitch Man....it makes a nice work bench
wrathchild281 Posted July 13, 2014 Author Report Posted July 13, 2014 Well my theory comes from myself believing that a sub ported with a certain power will sound like 2 of that sub on the same power but with double the subs since its sealed if all else is constant. Of course this is a close guesstimate buts it's always been a rule of thumb I heard since I got into audio. So 4 10s ported on 5k won't sound close 2 8 10's sealed on 5k on the meter? 225 Excessive Amperage Alt. 4 Yellow top batteries Pioneer AVH-6600 Kicker KQ5 2 FI 18 BTL's fully loaded 2 zx 2500.1's 4 ks6.5 coaxials 4 ks5.25 coaxials kx650.4 http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2358078
Karkov Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Personally I would go with the 4 SQ 10's because I believe they are better subs. Second, they take up less space, third, it will be ported. The comparison you are trying to make is apples to oranges. Different subs, different quantity, different enclosure, etc.etc.etc.etc.etc.etc $.02 2007 Chevy Tahoe (SOLD) 12 ~ FI Audio X series 10" w/BP option 2 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @0.67 3 ~ DC Audio 5.0K @1.0 2 ~ PPI 3 way sets (not installed yet) 1 ~ RF T400-4, 1 ~ RF T600-2, 1 ~ RF T600-4 4 ~ CT Sounds 5.25" Strato comps (rear fill only) 1 ~ XS Power D4800 1 ~ XS Power D3400 8 ~ XS Power XP3000 160 stock alt, Mechman 370 Elite, 185 DC Power 320+ Sq. Can't figure out what's wrong with the 18 BTLs you have but those theories are flawed completely, the L7 are square and the HDS round, different excursion and box requirements which could lead to a different layout which in turn change performance, the only thing I can tell you is that likely more subs are going to cost you more money, basically what you want to do is finding out who's done best numbers in your exact vehicle and ask/ figure out how it got done and eventually improve on that.
slowfkncar Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 Ok I am going to just put this here. 4 sub's ported vs 8 sub's sealed. In theory the ported sub's will be just as loud as double of the same in sealed (+3db). However,it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that it will only be 3db louder AT AND AROUND TUNING. if your 4 ported sub's were tuned to 40hz,then double of the same sub's in sealed would slap the ported box silly in all frequency's besides 35-45hz. If you are burping for numbers, then yes your 3db increase will be given. But never through the entire band. Only a narrow band of frequency's will be "just as loud" as double cone area in sealed.
Tecomah Posted July 13, 2014 Report Posted July 13, 2014 I say do the 8. 750??! Yeah, fuck that. Fuck this website, fuck SMD, fuck Steve, fuck all of his butt buddy mods, and their couches.^ DON'T BE A DICK LIKE THIS GUY Team Subsonic Lows
slowfkncar Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Yes the 8 10's in sealed will move air in a small ass like the Camino. However it is easier to move air with a ported box playing slightly below tuning. That is also a different approach on product and music.
