deadbroke
Would you wire a bulb before the tweeters ran in series or would you run one before each tweeter? Running active setup with re xxx tw 25 tweeters
audiofanaticz
Depends, Are you doing 2 tweeters in 1 location ran in series from the same channel of the amplifier? If so doing 1 bulb prior to both tweeters in series is ideal. If your doing 2 tweeters in 1 location powered from a different channel than 1 bulb prior per tweeter. audiofanaticz
Worth mention that the bulb may steal some of the range from the tweeters, you could also use a 10-15uf capacitor inline or thermal breakers that open when they get hot, and reset when they cool off similar to something in the majority of component crossovers. deadbroke
Well I already built the doors to hold 4 6.5s and 4 tweeters each. The tweeters are 4 ohm so I was thinking about running 2 in series to get me down to 2 ohm and wire the other two on another channel. Planning to get a 3sixty.3 as well. I'm open to ideas since I have yet to buy any amps yet but when I do I plan to buy rockford ones

4bannger
what is the purpose of a bulb or fuse between the amp and the tweeter?
audiofanaticz
if you are running active, what's the need for anything between the amplifier and tweeters ???Id have to assume a fail safe in case he doesn't set the crossovers or gain properly would be my only guess. However depending how he is doing his processing and if he ever loses power to the processor and all settings are erased, and you forget all about that when you hook power back up and jump in your car, the light bulb could save you from blowing your tweeters. what is the purpose of a bulb or fuse between the amp and the tweeter? Essentially tweeter protection. As someone else said about using a fuse, you can however a light bulb is far better. In extreme cases the light bulb will handle power better and over time the filament in the bulb may start to glow which will raise the impedance resulting in less power sent to the tweeter keeping it safe where as a fuse would just blow and your tweeter is done working until you change your fuse again, the light bulb will not blow (unless your doing something way wrong. Also if your clipping your amplifier that light bulb will also take the grunt of that abuse as well. But you still must keep in mind that the light bulb could drastically alter your tweeters response.
deadbroke
audiofanaticz got it right just in case more of a fail safe than anything. I have heard different things about bulbs but not much for them in series if I should add one before both tweeters, one before each, or two bulbs even, because I have seen some audio company soldering two bulbs together and selling it that way just wanted more clarification on it .
