Polar
off of Ft Lauderdale Florida. From about 2010. Took my 19 foot boat out( with buddy boats of course) to the " 50 line" which is about 17 NM off our coast. screwing around out there with 4 Tiagra 80's and my son decides to plop a TLD 50 down to about 850 feet. Guess which rod gets hit? Fish was about 227 , 5 hour fight. 2000 Ford Ranger Sport Ext Digital Designs DD915J 4.91 net birch box, inch port @ 33hz FSD FZ2600 FSD FZ100.4 Pioneer DEH80PRS PRV Audio 6MB200-4 6-1/2" Midbass Woofers Tymphany BC25SC08-04 1" Silk Dome Neodymium Tweeters with Waveguide

gckless
I did a couple years ago out of Okinawa. Left at 0400. Rode out about 1.5-2 hours. Caught about 100 bluefin and yellowfin tuna that day, a couple Mahi Mahi too. Nothing huge, probably an average of 2 feet. On the way back, one of my buddies was trolling for Marlin. Did not expect to hook one, he didn't have his good or "lucky" lure, he had never landed one, and the boat we were on didn't have a chair, just a vest to attach the rod to. Well, he did hook one. I don't know if you guys have ever seen someone fighting a fish that big, but it was sure something to experience, and I was only watching! This guy had both feet on the edge of the boat, like off the deck, almost completely horizontal on his back in midair trying to fight against it. Two other guys were holding onto the vest he had on, and two guys were holding those two guys lol. The captain had a little remote controller that enabled him to turn the boat from the back, so he could be in the back and watch and make sure the ass end of the boat was always pointed toward the fish. This Marlin was PISSED. The thing was about 100 yards out, and was jumping like a dolphin out of the water, like 10-15 feet in the air. You see it on TV, but it's just so awesome to see in person. After about 20 minutes, the fish had dove about 75 yards straight down under the boat. To everyone's dismay, it came unhooked. Dude damn near cried. That was the first time he's had a Marlin on his line. That was my first time ocean fishing. I grew up in New York fly fishing and fishing the streams and rivers there, always caught trout, occasionally bass out of a lake. HUGE difference in the strength of the fish. Those tuna fight hard man. Like trying to pull up a truck tire. We gave most of the fish to the local fisherman that were there on the dock when we returned. Just not possible to eat all of that. I kept 4, cut two for sashimi for the next 4 days, and froze the rest. And of course, we cut up the first fish caught and ate it there on the boat "Clipping" is the biggest forum boner now. It's like witchcraft... it automatically explains just about everything people don't understand.
