Recommended Posts

I need recomeendations on what type of adhesive to use to bond vinyl and fiberglass.. tried Super 77 and that fell on its face..

Also I need to know if I can put new adhesive on top of the old adhesive on the vinyl because I bought OEM vinyl and that shit is EXPENSIVE, so I'm hoping I can reuse the piece??

I used DAP weldwood in my last build. But there's a DAP adhesive with a higher "max temp rating." It starts with an L. Landeau?

I'll find it in 10 when I'm back in my room

However if you want to stick with 3M.. Go Super 90

I just found that one you talking about.. I REALLY appreciate it!! Do you think I could use the same vinyl piece or will I have to order more?

Dap weldwood contact cement will work good.

If its a piece that will be in direct sunlight or get hot rather hot from the sunrays even if the sun is not directly shining on it the dap weldwood will let go and the vinyl will come undone.

I use weldwood for box carpeting when I run out of the other stuff since I cant buy it in stores like the weldwood.

The right stuff to use for automotive interiors, door pods, pillars etc is Dap Landau Top & Trim sometimes referred to as Dap HHR, and is heat resistant.

It will not let go like the weldwood contact cement and much stronger, but there are restrictions on this stuff in many states where it is illegal like Cali.

http://www.dap.com/product_details.aspx?BrandID=50&SubcatID=9

Both work best to spray it out of a HPLV gun and spray both the vinyl and object your wrapping, and let tack up before joining the 2 pieces together.

IMO the typical weldwood red can stuff bought at most stores walks all over your aerosol can type sprays from various manufactures like 3m super 77 and 90, which just aint the same, and are highly expensive for the llttle coverage you get, and not much strength to them.

Thank you for the informative reply... I live out in Texas so I may have to invest in the Landau esp since I will be working on A pillars next..

I saw that adhesive is reactivated when more adhesive is put on top of it? So would that mean that I can reuse my piece of vinyl or should I buy more? I'm trying to save it because I bought OEM match and it's expensive and if I can save it I will, If not, I'll have to buy more so It doesn't come undone in the future...

What is your recommendation as far as that? Try to save piece or it's ok to reuse?

I myself would buy new, but if you want to try and reuse it if its large enough of a piece I guess it wouldnt hurt to try that first.

It is a pretty big piece lol I may just buy new so I don't have problems down the rode

Either of this videos would probably help you out. I use the DAP weldwood that was suggested:

Thank you! Your series helped me and I read about the DAP weldwood you used and I was seeing heat could be a factor and leaving in Texas I didn't want to risk it.. The Weldwood Landau is exactly what I need to withstand this Texas heat... Thank you for reaching out, and your Door Pod series is very informative! Helped me out A LOT!!
