Back Seat Enclosure

So.. Ive been thinking. Realistically, the biggest subs I can fit volume wise in my hatch are 10s.. and even that is limited due to mounting depth.

I did some talking and measuring, and didnt realize how much space was hidden in my back seat. In my back seat alone, I could fit 2 15s comfortably.. meaning I could literally THROW them in.

I could make a false floor like so, and attach my box to it:

Id have the box as high as the main trim piece go (before the quarter windows)

Obviously Id make trim panels to make it all look flush.

Now, I dont see this done often, so I have questions..

First and foremost, is this effective and efficient? No, it wont be as efficient as walling at the b pillar and sealing off, but would this be "bad?"

Secondly, how would you orient the subs and port? Up, down, left, right, forward, back.. so on and so forth lol

Third, does anyone have any other recommendations or care to share their experiences?

Thanks :good:

You might have seen this build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/179347-99-civic-2-dc-lvl-6-18s-no-wall-pics-and-vid-528/

I don't know how much of a space difference there is between his and yours though.

Hmmm, so is that a hatch? This will be difficult to attack. I say that becuase, if it was a trunk, then yeah, no problem. The trunk will actually aid you in sealing all sound pressure from the cargo department. But with a hatch, would be lots of work keeping all the bass moving toward the cabin. I think I would vote for sticking with the 2 10 design in the back.

I mean, I guess you "could" do 2 15" in the back seat, but again, would be hard to manage keeping all bass moving forward.

Here is a good set of 10's to look into. DSS Ethos - About 270$ plus shipping on pre order now.
