So here's what I'm looking at doing.

Initial setup:
Stock Alternator, Stock battery (98 Honda Civic)

Single Sundown Audio SA-8 V2 4 ohm (wire the voice coils together for a 2 ohm load)

Amplifier in question, a Soundstream STL1.1200D (Carries 700 watt RMS over 2 ohm or 1200 RMS over 1 ohm).

Final setup:
What I'm looking to do is just run the single SA-8 V2 currently but slowly upgrade my electrical with a little higher output alternator, a better battery and eventually build a second box and run a second SA-8 V2 and wire them together for a 1 ohm load on the Soundstream amp.

Does this sound like a solid setup to you guys/gals? Is there another amp I should be looking at? What have I forgot?

Not everyone has the same setup as you so no one knows if that will be a solid setup....as far as the amp goes, that's on you to do a little thing called research and read on it....anyone can you tell you get this get that, it all depends on your budget also...

Did you already buy that amp?

Thanks alaskanzx5 I might just do that
I can recone a sub myself. About a year ago I took 2 12" power acoustic mofos and made one sub. I took the magnet and the motor off of one and j b welded it to the other motor and magnet. I had to wind my own voice coil so it would work. After I was done hooked up to 2 boss 5000w amps. And shattered my back and all my side windows

came to this thread to recommend soundqubed and ct sounds. OP goes with soundstream.

oh lawd.

I'm sorry, I thought I was in the section of the forum where we talk about amplifiers. I could sit here and be a smart ass but it doesn't matter, you wont read it. So since out of all these people on the forum, I now value your opinion the least, if you see my name on the topic title, skip it. You have no new information I haven't already looked up, and since I was here for an opinion, yours doesn't matter.

sounds like a pretty legit plan........ reason for 8's?

Thought it would be an interesting change of pace. Normally I go for a pair of 10's or a single 12, try to build a box around it and tweak on things to get a sound level and response I want. I've been watching Sundown Audio and their SA-8 setups for a while now and I've never considered anything that small, but it really is a legit little sub from what I can tell. I really want to play around with the area inside the box and the port, see what I can do for the area around the box, see how loud I can actually get two tiny subs. To tell you the truth I might end up going with a larger amp anyway because I'm not sure what to expect out of the box rise.

Did you already buy that amp?

Not yet.

To review, I am going to purchase both woofers at different points in time. What I haven't told you is they will be in individual boxes. The left box will be built and tested and played with first. When I feel as if I understand the power requirements of the car as well as the system as a whole, then I will be able to tell what electrical upgrades I need.

I also stated that I may be changing my mind on the amplifier.

As far as low cone area, yes. If I wanted to be as loud as possible I would go with a larger setup, but that's not my point.

Do your electrical first then you can run a less efficient amp to its full potential especially if you are going to run it at 1 ohm.

As far as the power requirements of your car they don't change so you should base your additional power requirements off of the power you want to run.
