'85 Trooper 6 X 15" Dd Audio Clamshell, 16000wrms

Recommended Posts

Did bugger all work this afternoon, I was rather pissed off but I forced myself to do some.

A little bit of sanding, top piece in and filled the rest of the screw holes, ready to start the baffles now! :) Getting exciting, it's starting to look more and more like a box every day!

Thanks guys

Here's tonight's efforts guys. I know it's nothing much but it should tide over until I get some decent time to work on it on the weekend. My goal tonight was to get the bottom baffle somewhat complete. Here's what I did.

Cut the three pieces out, made sure they fit and cut the angle to suit. Screwed them together to hold them in one position.

Test fitted to make sure I can fit rows of 3 15" subs wide, it fits pretty easily. These are not the subs I am using, but I am using them to make sure the subs I do install fit. These are nice subs anyway though!

Marked out the positions for the holes. The router will attach to the centres of the X.

Posted Image

Test marks by the router to make sure I didn't screw up.

Then it's the 'here goes', cut all the way through, damn it looks messy so far!

Time to make some slightly smaller holes, same procedure as before:

Once I've done three layers it's time to make sure they all fit together, which they do.

Does the sub fit?

Posted Image

Yes it does, and because the first hole is large, the sub sits nice and flush in the baffle. It's not glued together yet so you can see gaps everywhere.

Edges tidied up, and it all lined up pretty well.. also gave it a light round over to make sure it doesn't chip much and to give it a neater finish.

Then I screwed and glued them into the car one at a time. Once they were all in a got rid of the nasty leaks of glue coming from every joint and mounted the temporary subs to see what it looks like. I'm pretty happy, it's finally starting to look like something.

Can't decide whether to mount them normal or inverted, what do you guys think?

Tomorrows effort: Start on top baffle and also finish bracing the bottom panel.

Cheers for looking guys.
