2k in civic coupe. Need alt & battery recommendations

Battery before alternator. A wet cell wont last long under the constant load of a big amplifier, whereas a AGM will.

My initial suggestion would be optimal, and would leave room for a bigger amplifier down the road. Since I don't know what kind of budget you're working with, I'm just saying that's what I would want to have for 2kw.

Really? Seems that isn't the issue in my wife's car. We have a 180 amp Mechman in it on a lead acid battery and it's going on 5 years now with no issues. I have always upgraded the alt in a vehicle before a battery.

How much power?

Slap a D7500 in the trunk. That will give you some traction.

Honestly it depends if he wants to spend money. He could easily get away with just an alternator upgrade on the stock battery and be fine. If you upgraded to a 250 or so amp alt that is plenty to supply the amp with the current necessary to make 2K watts. I would honestly do that before I just did a battery upgrade. However, looking at that end of the spectrum he could just drop in a group 31 off the stock alt and probably be okay, but more than likely have issues keeping the battery charged. With a 250 amp alt and only 2K watts the amp will probably never pull more than 180 amps maximum at any given time. It only takes 138 amps @ 14.4 volts to make 2K watts, but that is at 100% efficiency. Even if the amp did pull close to 180 amps that leaves 70 amps available to run all the accessories in the car at the same time as playing full tilt. I'm guessing that is never going to happen so my vote is for alt and stock battery or slightly upgraded stock battery and the alt as well.

You want him to spend money on a alt ..... for 2k?

i gotta ask man..... 2k?

She is running 800 to the sub and 500 to the highs so 1300 watts RMS. I know it isn't 2k but it is still solid. I have never seen the voltage below 13.7 in the car though.

Shit man an alt probably isn't going to run more than $400 for that car. If he were to go out and get a d3100 he's probably gonna pay at least $370. At least I didn't suggest alt, battery up front, and battery in the rear.

Fuck it might as well do a bank if 10 batts and dual 360 amp alts for fucking 2K watts!

An alternator is never a bad option. In this case with an upgrades alt in the 180-240a range depending what is available along upgrading your stock battery and adding a small supplemental battery in the rear will do you well.

I don't care what anyone else says, build your electrical right. It takes power to make power. We are also talking about a hobby that is upgrade driven. If you take care of your electrical now then you are prepared for an upgrade in the future.

If you would like any professional advice and help please feel free to send me a message.

Thanks CJ. Given our budget i think the alt is the best route for us. I don't want to have to deal with continually charging AGM batteries to top them off. and a 3100 is basically as much as an alternator. What is this about bypassing the ELD? Is there one in my jeep? I have a 250 amp alt and a 2400 up front, but my coltage at idle will drop to low 12's. Is that to be expected or do i need to do this ELD thing

Now dont think just because you buy an alt that you do not have to properly maintain your batteries. In no way is an Alternator a charger. A proper charger is critical to keeping your batteries in good condition and making them last.

I know. I'm getting myself a charger for christmas. I am gonna need it for when i put my xp3000 in the back of my jeep and add my other amp. for my friend's civic, i'll probably advise him to get a nice 270 amp alt... i was thinking mechman, and then we'll wire up my shuriken bt60 i got laying around in his trunk. and we'll just keep it topped off when i get my charger. That should do good enough for a clean 2k i think yea?
