Twostrokeking Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 I need some help. My new box will have two plexiglass windows and I cut them with a jig saw but my ocd is hating the look of them. You guys mentioned a jig for a router. How do I go about that? And then once the jig is on the 3/4" mdf what bit do I use? My dad has a router but it's not a plunge base. Any help is appreciated My Truck BuildSpending money on things I don't need, to impress others I don't know.At the end of the day for me its about the love of customizing anything and everything to limits or even past reasonable.-SkyHighCarAudio
tacomaguy1 Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 Flush cut bit....I'm not going to be able to explain it good but Assemble a square the size you want on one side of the box...4 pieces of mdf, than the flush cut bit will ride along the square you assemble. Look up how a flush cut bit works and you'll see what I'm saying Maybe someone else can explain it Team Flex Issues
islandpride684 Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 Build a square template to the size of the square hole you want, align the template on the piece of MDF where the square hole will be and draw out the square, rough cut the hole with jigsaw and leave about 1/8 of an inch space on the mark, use two-sided tape and align template with piece and secure the pieces, your fixed based router will work, just gotta adjust the height depending on the bit you have, top bearing flush trim or bottom bearing flush trim, top bearing the the template will be on top, bottom bearing the template will be on the bottom...hope this helps Build Log http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186921-blk9te-07-yukon-slo-mo-build/page-3?hl=%2Bblk9te#entry2881410
rocking.that.eclipse Posted October 20, 2014 Report Posted October 20, 2014 Take a strait edge and after you cut your whole double side tape it where you want to route out and then use a flush trim bit to router it strait and do that for all 4 sides
