Alternator Questions

So I got to thinking (never a good idea lol)

What is more "harmful" to an alt

Short momentary bursts of full output- Like quick momentary bass notes where voltage drops for a couple sec then levels back off, rinse and repeat.

OR

A constant full output- Like running supercaps where once the voltage begins to drop, the alt runs full tilt the entire time the bass is going until voltage climbs back to idle voltage.

I imagine the first scenario may possibly be hard on the Regulator,

While the second is hard on the stator, reg, brushes, and gets everything hot.

I imagine the second is more harmful in the long term, but idk i am probably over thinking this lol

Inputs? am I just retarded? don't answer that last one lol

EDIT: this stems from what i was told by a guy that rebuilds alts a while back.

i'd say the worst for the alts in constantly running at full output. even in that case, the first thing to wear out would probably be the internal brushes, and depending on your alt maker and their willingness to help you out, they are normally pretty easy and inexpensive to replace.

Cables and wires almost never fail; the terminations do.

I think it's pretty easy to figure out. What's harder on you running in short burst with walking in between the sprinting for 3 miles or running 3 miles flat out full speed?

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Turn it up till I burn it up.

the ONE thing i DGAF about, in my entire build...... is the alts...

I HOPE i can break, burn, fuck them up.... so far... nope. But,.. ill keep trying.

Haha thanks guys. I kinda figured, but I had an old timer lecture me on having a system in my truck and told me I'd burn up regulators left and right from the quick amp draw.

My stock alt is hating life right now, if i beat on the system at all, that alt goes WO until the caps recharge lol Gonna get a H.O alt this spring-summer.

I just wanted to pick your brains a little bit Thanks!

And new brushes for my alt are $11, so i can live with that lol
