Michael James Murphy
I was thinking about pulling the badges of my 2001 Silverado but i know the paint has faded some since it's an older truck. I was thinking about repainting the whole truck and was wondering what was some dependable paint guns that ya'll know of. And any tricks and tips would be greatly appreciated. And it would probably be done outside so what Tempurature would be ideal? Thanks in advance
mbdblue
Devilbiss has been a pretty budget friendly contender people seem to enjoy; I haven't sprayed their HVLP gun just the RP.....But spraying outside....I would definitely avoid that if possible man. You have dust and bugs and pollen floating around. You may not realize it, but you absolutely will when you shoot a wet coat of paint. Temperature is usually ideal above 60 degrees (for the most part). aculous
best bet is to mask off your garage and make a temporary "downdraft" type setup. But painting a truck is going to be really tough and a TON of work. Most likely people will be able to tell if you don't do the prep work right. Theres a reason it costs 5k$ for a professional paint job. Also even a small area or one fender will stand out like a sore thumb if its freshly painted and the rest is not. Color matching is a PITA. I have seen some people do DIY paint jobs and they can be ok but usually done with the panels off the truck and a TON of prep/colorsanding/blocking work before during and after. CleanSierra
Do you have ANY idea how to paint? If not, stop now and find someone that does. As far as guns go, I've got a Devilbiss Finishline FLG4 and it shoots everything well. I use an old school Sharp gun for primer(I use laquer primer). Do you have a compressor that can run the CFM you need to paint a vehicle? A small Harbor Freight comp will NOT get it done man. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you. CleanSierra
If you just want brands and no advice on technique, etc here you go: 1)SATA 2)IWata 3)Devilbiss I doubt just listing brand names will help your though. Michael James Murphy
It does help out alot thanks. I'm probably just going to get a professional to do it. I was basically getting an idea if it was worth it or not
JAC27
I run a sata primer gun. Iwata base, clear and airbrushes. Booth is as simple as a box fan and a roll of visqueen. Im all about doing it myself, you take your time and pick up tips n tricks, theres no reason you cant either. But dont think you can paint a car for $100 its 300-1500 just for paint. And its a skill. You hone it over time.
