Sackcheese Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 I've got an 09 Murano non Bose factory radio and have a sub installed... I have a 3.8 cube enclosure tuned to 38-40 hz and on tunes that should play 20ish hz my sub barley moves and Hartley makes a sound could this b my box being tuned to 40 hz or my factory deck not being able to produce a 20 hz signal ... I can't seem to find any specs on the 09 nissan murano's own deck... I would think it would b 20hz-20,000
mothra Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 please google how a ported enclosure works if nothing changes, nothing changes You don't know what you don't know, till you don't know
Sackcheese Posted December 12, 2014 Author Report Posted December 12, 2014 I'm aware that below a tuned freq of the enclosure the sub will begin to unload and start to act as tho it is in a free air environment .... I guess what I'm trying to figure out is is it possible for a factory radio to not have a freq responce all the way down to 20 hz
Krakin Posted December 12, 2014 Report Posted December 12, 2014 No, the quality of said signal may vary based on frequency, but the general trend tends to be the higher the frequency the harder it is to amplify, but that is well beyond hearing range. I also recommend upgrading from a stock radio if you intend to be in to any type of sound hobby. Krakin's Home Dipole Project http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186153-krakins-dipole-project-new-reciever-in-rockford-science/#entry2772370 Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist? I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.
Sackcheese Posted December 12, 2014 Author Report Posted December 12, 2014 So it's safe to assume that my stock radio is actually producing 20 Hz signal to 20,000 Hz signal I suppose the problem may lie elsewhere likely my box I acquired it through a friend and had to modify it to fit the woofer and being tuned around 40 Hz to me it's too highso I may disassemble the box add to the port which should drop the cubic feet to around 3 cubes and from what I'm figuring drop the tuningto somewhere around 30 Hz and try that or plug the hole and stick a six-inch aero ...It's just that when I should be hearing a 20 Hz note the speaker itself isn't moving very much which led me to believe that my stock radio isn't even producing a 20 Hz signal or at the very least a very weak one anyway thanks for the input guys
KenSchoen Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 I still don't know how bad it is to play below tuning...but I can tell you my friends p3 12's are in a 3.3 ft3 box per side tuned to 36 and the low note's are still nuts. If you want to make the choice to play below your tuning that up to you. Check your sub sonic cut off on your amp, make sure they are getting enough power, and then if that doesn't work ditch your stock radio. I mean we don't know if you are giving your subs the power they need to excel at low note's. We also don't know what kind of sub you have. If you have a kicker comp don't expect it to play loud below tuning.
islandpride684 Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 Factory radios suck balls!!!!!! Build Log http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/186921-blk9te-07-yukon-slo-mo-build/page-3?hl=%2Bblk9te#entry2881410
CleanSierra Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 You might have the subsonic(infrasonic) filter set to cut frequencies before a certain Hz off at the amp. I suggest looking at the Subsonic filter setting. Your factory unit surely sends out the full range 20-20,000 Hz. Your box may be responsible as well. Playing below box tuning can be harmful because you're effectively eliminating the enclosure's ability to mechanically control the sub. This can and will result in jumping the coil out of the gap and potentially slamming the voice coil former on the pole when it enters the gap again. The other negative possibility is bottoming the voice coil on the back of the motor. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
Sackcheese Posted December 14, 2014 Author Report Posted December 14, 2014 I know my amp and subs aren't the best but I've got 2 BRE 2500.1 on 1 re xxx12 v4 and it's getting 1000 watts on each coil I've got the gains matched with a dmm and I've got the gains matched to the best of my abilitys with my ear to the deck ... The box was 3.8 cubes tuned to 40 hz ... Today I pulled the box apart and added to the port lowering the volume to 3.0 cubes excluding port area and tuned it to 31 hz witch brung out the lows better so it appears that the box was the problem mostly
