Big 3 question

So, I was looking at big 3 threads in here, and I was just watching steve meades install video of his sons car. I notice on his Big 3 upgrade he went from(pos batt to alt charging bolt, neg batt to alt, and alt to frame. He also didn't fuse his positive one.

Now on the tutorials I see in here, no one does theres the same way. I see Positive from battery to positive from alternator

- Negative from battery to ground

- Engine block to ground

Meade never mentioned anything about block to ground(tho I'm sure it wouldn't be a bad thing, but why is it the way people show it in these forums diff from the way he did it, and would his way help more? His vid was from Nov 9 also, so it is a recent vid

You can do it a lot of different ways. Any way helps over stock. Most likely he did not fuse because his alternator was not producing enough current to exceed the capacity of the short length of wire.

When it comes to grounds, everyone grounds different. Basically the best situation would be batt to alt case, batt to frame, batt to engine block, batt to chassis, and engine block to frame, alt case to frame, etc. I could go on and on. The more grounds you use to connect everything theoretically the better the return path will be. It gets to a point though where you don't really gain enough to worry about it. Every benefit of the Big 3 is based on the assumption that by adding a solid wire you are creating a path of lesser resistance that what is currently present in your vehicle. Sometimes it is a lot better, sometimes not so much.

Personally I would go batt to alt case or bracket, batt to frame, batt to chassis, and alt case/bracket to frame. Just what I do though.

For car audio, people ground engine block as a way of providing a return path for the alt. a ground directly from alt case to frame is better for that purpose than engine block to frame.

engine dont need ground(extra). stock ground is all it needs. chassis and alt are the important ones. you cant wire the engine and hope the alt gets grounded. there are gaskets and silicon that get in the way.. the only thing that will benefit from grounding the block is the starter

And fuel injectors, coils/plugs

@Mr.Big. I believe he said the alt on his sons install was putting out like 220amps I believe. The way you said you do it almost sounds like how he did his, plus 1. So you would do yours 1. Neg batt to alt case. 2. Neg battery to frame. 3.Neg or positive to chassis(I thought chassis was just another word for frame)? And 4. Alt case to frame?

Do not for any reason connect the positive to the chassis.

1. Alt positive to batt +

2.alt case to batt -

3.batt - to chassis

4. Engine to chassis

5. Alt case to chassis* not required but doesn't hurt.

And fuse all positive runs.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
