Skullz Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 Try a 10a fuse and see if it keeps popping. Do not go more than 20a cause your wire will probably not support that much draw and melt and start a fire. no just no.. thats the worst advice you can give someone.. if he has a short he will catch that car on fire before it blows the fuse.. someone replaced a 15a fuse in my expo that kept blowing out with a 20a.. yeah it worked for a few days till the short burnt all my wiring The problem was not the larger fuse!!!!! The problem was exposed wiring that finally let loose with a coincidence of replacing with a larger fuse. My car has a known problem with wiring cracking and exposing all wires going to the hatch allowing them to short out and cause a possible fire. Most auto wiring is capable to handle double the amperage rated for safety reasons, but i do agree that if it pops with a 10a fuse then there is something going on that needs addressing as 5a for a radio is on the low side considering most radios today have decently powered internal amps. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
Broke_Audio_Addict Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 His headunit has a max current draw of 10 amps. That being said my double din pioneer nav unit has the same rating and it runs just fine with a 5 amp fuse and it's never blown. I also think he's got some stray wires or something else going on. Broke_Audio_Addict Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 Also the next size fuse up if he doesn't have any wiring issues is not a 10 amp. Automotive wiring is not designed to handle double the amperage for safety reasons they use the bare minimum that they can. poorfish88 Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 What are fuses for? If it's too small and pops insert larger fuse duh! Or your install aftermarket stuff in your car and don't know how? Bad things can happen you don't use fuses....
Broke_Audio_Addict Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 Yep that's right throw a bigger fuse in it even if the wire isn't rated for it, who gives a fuck? Don't try and figure out if there is an issue causing it to blow at all. who gives a fuck about that either? Too big of a fuse is just like not using one at all. You guys are giving some dangerous advice. Miguels Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 my short was created by the vibration from bass. it was the AC control on the headliner. the wires kept rubbing against the deadener. my 15 fuse would blow when i would lower or raised my windows due to exposed wire.. they try to fix it with putting a bigger fuse. that didnt work and melted the wire that was exposed. using bigger fuses is not a fix. finding the source and fixing it is. maybe the deck has an internal short and can cause a fire.. you guys been here long enough to know that, yet suggest something that is putting someone's life at risk my logshttp://www.stevemead...-my-new-set-up/my blow through loghttp://www.stevemead...future-updates/ 96 ss http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164094-96-impala-ss-build/
