kirill007 Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 2 12's should always be louder then 1 12 on the same power. I'd choose 2 12's, and have a bit more power handling then necessary so you don't have to worry about anything. But would it sound cleaner/tighter or just louder? Only louder unless you are exceeding the linear capabilties of the single driver. Thinking is the root of all problems... You ALWAYS get what you pay for.
Guest Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 If two subs have say 10 mm Xmax each but the 1 sub has 20mm at the same power handling than they should perform the same the only benefit if that was the case is two subs will cool more efficiently. So, if a single sub had like 30mm Xmax and two subs has 20mm Xmax, then the two subs would be louder and more efficient right? But would they also be more clean? Or is that still dependant on a lot of other factors?
hoit Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 I guess it just depends what your ultimate goals are...more cone area, in general, is always a better option. If you have the space for two 12s...i'd go that route. maybe just one higher quality sub for now...as im sure you'll probably want to expand in the future (most of us do). the single 15, might be a happy medium...save up a little and invest in a powerful 15...anyone, feel free to correct me if im wrong...but im under the impression one 15 at 1500rms (in a proper enclosure with good elec. of course) will be louder than one 12. but...2 12s gives you more cone area...therefore, more efficient. 2007 Chevy Aveo Ls sedan 2 Sundown Xv2 on scv4k @ .5 ohm 2 pair RE XXX 6.5 components on sax200.4 @ 2 ohm Big Three, Three runs 1/0 power from front to back, 1 ground front to back Two runs ground from rear bank to chassis XS power d3100 upfront, 3 Odyssey 2150s in bank Singer 220 amp alt

Thanks! But if I do go the route of 2 12s they def will not be poor quality. I mean brands like AA are pretty solid/reputable.
hoit Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 if you have the budget (and space/elec.) for two quality 12 inch subs.(don't have any experience with AA, but heard good things)..that would obviously be the better route over one 12 or one 15. 2007 Chevy Aveo Ls sedan 2 Sundown Xv2 on scv4k @ .5 ohm 2 pair RE XXX 6.5 components on sax200.4 @ 2 ohm Big Three, Three runs 1/0 power from front to back, 1 ground front to back Two runs ground from rear bank to chassis XS power d3100 upfront, 3 Odyssey 2150s in bank Singer 220 amp alt

Yeah, the only difference going with the two subs for me is that would be receiving half the power rather than a single woofer taking all of it.
Joe X Posted January 15, 2015 Report Posted January 15, 2015 Two AA Chaos (800W RMS each) would be excellent on those 1500W if you have the space, since you won't be overdriving them at all you will get great sound quality as well as greater cone area than a single 15".
