Running wires under car + grommet question

Recommended Posts

I plan to have two runs of SHCA 2/0 wire from front to back. I want to run the wire under the car.

1. Do you recommend convulated tubing or PVC pipe to protect the wire under the car?

2. I can't find any rubber grommets large enough for SHCA 2/0 wire (3/4 inch inner diameter). Any recommendations.

Unless you're going to be rock crawling with the risk of the wire being scraped, then you don't need to cover them.

Google. There's lots of places that have grommets as large as 3''. http://www.cableorganizer.com/grommet/

I have 1 run of SHCA 2/0 ran under my expedition. I live in southern AZ and besides heat, my wire really isn't exposed to the elements. I've had 0 issues. I doubled up zipties about every 18" - 24" and its been fine for the 13 or 14 months ive had it that way. Keep it a safe distance away from exaust pipes and make sure the wire isn't lower than any of the rest of your vehicles frame or anything.

For grommets ive seen people use PVC

Depends on your vehicle, and the route options you have available . On my truck all my runs are tucked up in the running boards for most of the way. i haven't owned a car in over 10 years, but when i did,i always ran my wire in the vehicle. You could use pvc and tech flex ,if you want peace of mind.
