Running 1 alt VS 2 ...?

Recommended Posts

I have a Stetsom 7k at .5 ohm on currently 400ah of bat reserve . I have the gains way down right now because if I try to go any louder at a certain point the voltage goes down to low 12s

are you adding more power?

Hell with that set up.. id just add a few bats...... if you have a strong alt...

Ran a DC 10k on a singer 350 with around 700 amp hours at .7.. and never saw bat voltage... even set with a -10 tone....

At least you avoided the ground sensor in 07' and newer GM vehicles.

I don't know a ton about the new systems and shit that regular alternators and whatnot in newer vehicles..... but...

Here is a good rule of thumb to go by, 100a of alternator per 2000w.

So 10kw, assuming proper amount of reserve, would need 500a of charging.

I'm planning on running dual alternator setup keeping my factory charging separate. But I don't know what alternator to buy. I thinking of buying a 350 amp alternator for like 2001 tahoe which is not pcm controlled and using it on my 07 caddy. But I don't know if it will work that simple. I seen I great deal online from a fellow basshead.

is there an issue with 07 and up replacing stock alt? I'm asking because I was going to upgrade a 2014 gmc 5.3 with a mechman 370 in the stock location.

The alternators in these Silverados are controlled by the PCM. Keep an eye on your voltage next time you're driving. Mine will fluctuate between 12-15 on a long enough drive. The advantage of running a second alt is you can have a completely isolated charging system that is not controlled by the PCM and will charge at a consistent voltage.
