magillaru
For those of you that use techflex, what type is most commonly used? I use the "general purpose" stuff that it seems everyone else uses just based on pictures and options available but does anyone use the temperature grade stuff (e.g. "insultherm")? Just wondering if this type or some of their other stronger ones would be better for under the hood applications or running wires under the vehicle..... scooter99
Some people say to use that in the engine bay, but I've only ever used the general stuff and never had an issue. Even have some in my truck that runs next to an exhaust header and it's not melted or anything. So I'd say you're fine with General Purpose. Skullz
You can use it for many things like hoses, tube, and wires and you can get it in expanding and non-expanding that is softer to the touch. I like to use both techflex and wire loom with the loom on the wire and techflex covering the loom for an added layer of protection. Great seller, i have bought many things from them. magillaru
That's actually what I did for my positive run from my alt to batt (techflex and flame retardant loom) for added protection. I'm gonna check out that braided nylon..... edit: so the braided nylon is still techflex??? philrab
I've always used the general purpose stuff everywhere, never had an issue. I ran my main run right along the main wire bundle, wrapped in Techflex, zip tied every 6-9". I figure if the main loom doesn't have any insulation on it (just plastic shrouding) and isn't melting then it's fine. Wouldn't try to sneak past an exhaust manifold without a little sleeve right in that area though, just use some common sense. 2015 Toyota Tacoma Build Thread 2007 Mazda 3; 5000K HID's, Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997, Infinity Reference 6.5 comps in front and coaxials in the rear doors, JL 320.4 four channel, Rab Designs built ported enclosure with an SA12, Kenwood monoblock, Redline Leater shift boot/e-brake boot/center console cover, JBR short shifter/shifter bushings/rear motor mount. Bump4life
i had the general techflex that expands 2 times or 3 times its size to fit my 2/0 wire. it was near the exhaust, maybe 12 inches or so and at one point 4 inches and it showed no signs of fatigue. had it there for 2 years. summer winter and all weather. great stuff. magillaru
Cool, I'll just stick with the general purpose stuff and keep the loom on the run from the alt to batt for extra protection. I was going to use all black but I'm gonna order some red to match my alt for under the hood. Thanks fellas!
