Planning out my Electrical- Need some help

Car is a:

2008 Dodge Magnum police package

160amp alternator

Stock Battery in the rear of the car

Audio Gear (by fuse rating):

Orion XTR 475- 700 watt max

Rockford Fosgate 1200.1- 1500 watt max

Cadence XAH 125.4- 600watt max

My guess is 2k-3k watts max total.

The XS site recommends on D4800. Now I am guessing that I can run a starting and secondary instead of one 2000w capacity battery. Wonder what would be your recommendations on a good choice. Also people say its bad to mix AGM and other types of batteries is that the case if you use a battery isolator as well? (my guess would be yes)

Also do I need to upgrade the alt at all? I was looking at upgrading to a singer or mechman but not sure if its worth it. Also would it be a good idea to run a 14v system with a stepdown to my car's ECM/other electrical? Kinda sounds like a gigantic PITA but I have just started reading about higher voltage charging systems.

I got a d4800 sitting in my garage... if you aren't far, it's yours for a fair price.

You could go with a HO alt if you wanted to, but it's not really worth it imo. Good charging/ground runs and you should be fine with the stock alt, a d4800, and maybe an xp950 or two for auxiliary.

That police car package, should come loaded with a killer alt anyway........

Im not trying to dump on your shit, but... you may see half of what your thinking.. maybe.

So, if you have around 100 amp to chug.. which i think you do.. youll be more than fine..... Ill bet you dont even go into bat rest...

No you're good man, I agree I just plan out things for what is the max and if I can handle that draw then I know it can handle everything else I am going to put to it. I usually over-estimate anyway just to make sure I have no issues.

The alt puts out 120a at park idle apparently so I think I am more then fine. (although they give a idle and park idle...no idea what the hell the difference is)

"The amperage rating of the Dodge Charger and Magnum police vehicles alternator is 160A full output, and 135A max idle at SAE standard of 27°C (80°F). The alternator output capacity depends on the engine speed and the temperature in the engine compartment as follows:

Alternator Output Condition Engine Speed Alternator Temperature

Output Current Idle 624 RPM 93°C (200°F) 90A

PARK idle 1200 RPM 93°C (200°F) 120A

Run (max) 2500 RPM 93°C (200°F) 140A"

Oh also I have another Cadence 4 channel that I am using for tweets and rear fill...but that may change. Its says its a 1000w (125w x 4 amp)....it has 2(30amp) fuses, so I am going to say MAX 600.

But yea ok I am just checking. So really alt should be fine (car has 116K on it so I may check that just for kicks) and get a good AGM and it looks like the D4800 isn't out of line then.
