Need help trouble shooting amp in protection

I'm not sure if I should have post this here or in the amp section but I feel like this is the right section since its more to do with wiring and voltage drops.

So equipment I have a single SA-8-V2 d2 wired to 1 ohm on a Memphis 16-pr1.1000. I have 0AWG KNU OFC cable for battery and ground. Haven't done a complete big 3 but did upgrade the negative to ground on engine block with 0AWG. Waiting on more 0 gauge to finish the big 3.

My problem I'm having is anytime I try to turn up the volume on the kenwood and push the system the amp goes into protection mode. At first it would turn up to around 16-17 then shut off I figured a bad ground so I took the ground off and made sure it was down to bare metal and hooked it back up. At this point it would go out between 17-19. So I then upgraded the ground on the engine block with the left over 0 gauge. No change at all.

So one day I try reading the voltage drop with a multimeter and the voltage drops in both the B+ and the REM but drops lower on the REM wire. About 11.8V on the B+ and the REM would drop to around 11.4 when the sub really hit. Immediately after checking the voltage it seemed as though it was fixed I could turn it all the way up to 30(as high as I was comfortable going) without it going into protection. Well that lasted for all of that day only for it to go back to going into protection the next day. So I tried running a cable straight from the B+ to the REM temporarily to test and to see if that would keep it from shutting off. Still shuts off.

After breaking in the sub a little I am now able to turn it up between 18-21 before it shuts off.

Also I haven't actually set the gain and tuned the amp yet but I have it turned up less than half way for now. I was trying to get everything working correctly before cleaning everything up and tuning.

So now im thinking it might be a bad amp but im not sure.

Any ideas what the problem might be or what I can try before ordering a new amp? Any suggestions on this at all?

Sorry that this is a little long but thanks for reading and for any help.

Voltage or impedance.

A subs T/S parameters change as they break in, and since you mentioned it's changed after break in, it almost sounds like impedance. 11.8 isn't good but not sure if that's low enough to get it to protect.

What are your enclosure specs and what music do you listen to?

Enclosure is .75 cubes tuned to around 33hz and I listen to mostly rap.

I have listened to rock on the same sub and noticed the amp didn't go into protect as early figured it was because the sub doesn't hit as hard on rock and doesn't pull as much juice.

Also when I checked the impedance on the multimeter it read 1ohm and the amp is supposed to be stable at 1ohm

That could be your voltage drop problem right there, gain under halfway doesn't mean it's not clipping.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Well I guess I will set the gains tomorrow and see if that fixes the problem but I'm still thinking its going to be something different.

With the car at idle and the music volume down low im only seeing around 11.9 volts. Im thinking I may have some serious problem with my charging system even though I don't have any issues with battery drain or starting.

not that my opinion matters any  but 11.8 sounds pretty low. I could defiantly see that as a possibility of whats throwing your amp into protect. If i ever see mine drop below 12.5 im shutting her down

I am going to lean towards voltage being your problem. I would first tune everything and play it at a comfortable level that doesn't put the amp into protect, when you get your wire I would do the big 3 and see if that cures the problem. Just curious is this stock alt and batt only?

What should I do since my batts rest at 12.4?
