ben1994
Got a quote from singer on a new alt for my 98 Camry 2.2l 4cyl. He said I would need a shorter belt.1/2" to 3/4". Is this something standard you can ask for at an auto parts store?
Rich Schenk
lol no if only it was that easy. good choice on goin with singer he makes some beastly alts. love my 347 6 phase hairpin. shit every time i do a ho alt i have to buy at least 2-3 belts. when i had to delete my ac compressor because it locked up i had to get 10 diffrent belts to make it work. listen to singer though usualy 1/2- 1 inch shorter buy a couple and return the ones that dont work that is the best advice i can give you. good luck man. SnowDrifter
Yup. Grab the stock size and 2 sizes below that. Put on the smallest one you can fit, return the others ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
ben1994
So does the width matter? Sorry if it seems like a stupid question. I know a fair amount about car audio, not so much about cars.......what would I look for to go wrong on a belt?
SnowDrifter
You want same width, shorter length I don't understand your second question ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

SnowDrifter
If the belt lenth isn't ideal what will happen? Squeaking? If it's too long it'll squeal and you'll chew through belts. If it's too short you won't be able to get on. Use the shortest one you can possibly get away with ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
Broke_Audio_Addict
There are ways to get a super tight belt on but none of them are pretty. I almost lost a finger once. That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals. ben1994
So is the tentioner set as tight as it can be before you out the belt on?
