Deeboy718's 97 Explorer- A small re-build

Recommended Posts

So I've had several different brand amps in my truck, and wanted to have the same brand in order to have a setup that I could make clean and something I wouldn't be embarrassed to show. I know I'm going to get a lot of grief for going with audiopipe, but I don't compete, and daily driver is an extreme overstatement. I Work long hours during the week, so I don't get to drive her much except for on the weekend. Not to mention that this is a budget build since I do have a wife and 3 daughters to support at home. I know, people are going to tell me to have a fire extinguisher handy and what not, but everything is tuned conservatively, and I never drive around full tilt for any extended period of time. Anywho, on to some pics!

The amps after I pulled them from the truck. As you can see, my wires were crappy 4-gauge. Definitely upgrading to 0 gauge wherever I can. I'm also eliminating the 10-farad cap since I purchased a XS Power D3400 for under the hood as well as 2 D925 batts to go in the back.

I went with Audiopipe's dealer line amps because I've heard good things about them. They didn't have a small 4-channel, so I got the consumer line 1,000 watt 4-channel for my tweets. They did have a dealer line 2-channel, but didn't want to limit myself for possible future upgrades/changes.

So this is the basic layout I came up with. It's the same height and width of my 4th order. Pretty straight forward.

So I laid out the amps and screwed them down in order to trace them and cut the wood out from under the amps in order to allow for airflow. I will eventually put fans behind the amps and purchase a TM-1 to keep them cool.

I then cut the panel to size and made the cutouts for under the amps.

I also poked all the wholes for the wiring. Like I said, I'm trying to make it neat.

Started running the wiring. I didn't have a fuse holder for the small 4-channel. Some people say it's not necessary for such a small setup, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I'll add a fuse holder for that amp soon.

This was a close one. Just hope I don't get any noise by having rca's so close to my mono block's power and ground wires.

I had some extra birch laying around, so I cut up some make-shift feet to bolt the panel to my box with. Just enough to clear the wiring behind the panel.

I didn't get as many pics as I would have liked to, but I was working on this by myself so stopping every few minutes to take pics just didn't happen. This is how it lined up once the wiring behind the panel was done and I secured the panel to my box.

Had to cut out a couple of small platforms for the batteries. There's a dip in the metal right where the batts would sit, so they would bob down in the front. It's only temporary till I figure out something nicer.

20150403_194303_zpsh59stka6.jpg

And here's the basically finished setup. A lot of little things happened in the background that again, I didn't stop to get pics of. I ran two 0-gauge positive runs from the front batt to the back batts as well as two 0-gauge ground runs. There's distributor blocks for power and ground behind the panel, as well as a turn-on relay kit for my remotes.

Well, that's it for now. Any comments or opinions are welcome and appreciated, other than the ones I know I'm going to see for running audiopipe!
