2" or 3" aero port?

Running a Sundown X-8 in a 1 cube box tuned at 32hz, not sure how to calculate the port area on precision aero ports, so will a 2" suffocate the 8 too much? Or will a 3" move too much air and not build enough pressure?

If I remember exactly, Sundown claims that you need at least 12 square inches or port area which would mean that even a 3 inch is too small.

No such thing as "move too much air and not build enough pressure". There can be other problems with extremely oversized ports, but that's not what you are going to run into.

Sundown recomends 12-16 sq in of port area, which means you need a 4" port at a minimum or you could do two 3" ports. In either case they going to have to be long to get the tuning low enough. That's the trouble with these small, low tuned boxes, with lots of port area. It very difficult to fit the port into the box.

Makes sense, i'm putting a 3" in right now, i don't have enough room for a 4". Box is at its maximum dimensions in the back of a jeep wrangler, so going to have to make due with what i've got. Don't have enough depth for a 4" and keeping my tuning down.

Do a slot port and you can get the right port area for your sub and nothing extra to buy.

Like JoeX said, a slot port is the way to go. You won't have to sacrifice all your low end output becuase your port is too small, and you can probably still fit it in your space.

Here is a box a did a while back for a X-8, its .75 cu ft, tuned to 33 Hz, with 17.5 sq in of port area. Just to give you an idea of how you could layout the port.

I already have a bunch of aeros laying around, and the main reasons i'm leaning toward the aeros so much is because i feel like in my setup, they eliminate alot of port noise, plus they take up virtually no space of the boxes internal volume compared to a slot port. This box sits at just under 1ft^3 after displacements, and still fits in my lock box of the Jeep so she's all secured up even with the top off. I feel like it helps the sound resonate as well, almost serving as a 6th order setup the way the box vents underneath the back seats. Just got it all hooked up, sounds great, but it doesn't sound like it's trying to breathe more
