Port area. what does it affect?

nice add kirlill007.

i was using wrong terminology. i learned something about nominal impedence :)

i guess in my argument i was referring to the dcr not nominal. but my thinking is the same. when its in the gap i can see wehre they get the average from. cool stuff.

Krakin, are you some sort of mad scientist?

I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself

but what has drawn your attention

in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums

An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space

Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears,

thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener.

well, like i said..

from nominal.

It dont go down from there..

from nominal to dcr, sure.. my subs are one ohm coils but DCR at .7.

The graph isnt hard to see that from nominal load it dont go down, but dcr can....the graph on the nominal load doesnt go through to the left......and only goes UP.

It goes down from the nominal if you are playing around 25 Hz or lower on that graph.

I was saying the same..

thing is, is my subs dcr is .7, but a 1ohm coil

if someones dcr is one ohm..... then you still wont go lower... because their nominal is actually higher starting..

so if my dc resistance is .7

i wont fall below that right?

Correct.

so if my dc resistance is .7

i wont fall below that right?

Yep.

Impedance consists of two parts, resistance and reactance. Resistance is your DCR which is always the same, well, at least its not directly affected by frequency. The reactance is the other part of impedance which basically represents the opposition to a change in voltage or current because of inductance or capacitance. In our case with speakers, its basically just the magnitude of inductance produced by the woofer's coil that affects our impedance. The magnitude of this inductance is a function of frequency. So, it is this reactance portion of the impedance that is responsible for what we call impedance rise or box rise in car audio.

soooooo

like i said..

my dcr is .7

others DO read one ohm...

you will NOT drop below that... the dcr...

that was my point........ the dc sub your running, and reads 1ohm.. well that is dcr.... you wont drop below that

same as mine at .7...... the NOMINAL is the pink elephant, when power is applied...

again, just saying, and you CANT drop below that.
