ALT ground to Battery Question - Distribution Block

Recommended Posts

Posted

Okay, so I've been getting my wires and everything all done... and realized I have a open 4g spot on my distribution block spot left from my amp grounds.

Setup - Running one 4g, and two 8g negative returns into block with 0g back on a 5ft run back to the battery.

Question - I could tie the alternator ground into this by running a very short 1 ft 4g wire, instead of the 4-5 foot i'm going around the other way, is this going to lead to any noise in my system, or issues? Plus it will just look really clean too. This is only on the grounding side, the ALT Power is straight to the battery.

Thanks!

EDIT, so what i mean is... should i 1.) run the ALT ground straight to the battery (longer run, wasted wire) , OR is it fine to connect it to my distro block grounds for all my amps coming back through the firewall and meeting up with the 0g to head back to the battery.

basically, should it stay on it's dedicated line, OR can i mix it with all those amp grounds (that also go straight back to the battery.

A shorter ground won't cause issues

Edit for clarification: a shorter ALT TO BATT ground won't cause issues. Other grounds, shorter may not be better depending on the location of the ground

an extra ground wouldn't hurt anything

I added some info to first post, hope this clears up my question.

That does clear it up. Shouldn't be a problem

Sweet, then that's how I'm going to wire it!
