Son needs a gaming rig (desktop), any suggestions?

Recommended Posts

My son had some $1,200 gaming laptop that got stolen. (no idea what it was)

He wants a gaming rig, and has decided a desktop unit would be cheaper/better for getting something again. He has a good tablet for his laptop/school needs.

He's not going to over clock or spec chase or anything like that, just play games. That said, he plays most of the modern games. Anything by Bethesda like Skyrim. I think he wants the new Fallout 4. (Is that new? Is that what the kids are playing these days?)

He doesn't need the best of the best, just something he can game on. The cheaper the better.

He'll probably just use whatever tv he is nearby for a monitor.

Are there any tower/keyboard/mouse combos out there that fit my criteria? How much am I looking at spending?

Links are appreciated. Thanks for any advice. I am computer stupid.

I'd rather just buy one pre-assembled. I feel we could build it, but have no desire.

That's what I was going to say

Newegg.com. Build one if you want a badass one; buy a decent one of you don't want to build it....

I just bought a desktop for a buddy for 350, 3.5ghz 1tb memory 8g ram

For 1200 you can get a badass computer!!!!

You get a little more bang for your buck when you build it!

The real question to make was if you want to runs Intel chip and motherboard or amd

I've always run Intel it's reliable solidly rated..... But if you look at some of the amd chipsets in newegg the ratings are out of this world , 5000 reviews at all 5 starts lol intel cards are lucky to get 4-5 starts lol

Now each company makes good and bad ones so id pick something that's most reviewed on their site

You could probably build a amazing computer for 1200

300- i7 processors

150 good motherboard

8-32 g ram 150-300

1 ssd --250-500gb boot drive

1 sata 1tb hard drive (stick with seagate, big name brands on hard drives)

100 case

100 power supply

Video card 250

You can always look into the build your own supercombos you pick everything you want and still get a deal

That's why I never made a thread when I built mine lol.

I vote build one since you can get the most out of your money. Newegg has some killer deals and combo prices, and like Cortez said, they have some nice pre-picked parts packages.

It's like rubbing your wiener up against a sheep.
