If you have to ask that question, the box needs to be the correct size as recommended, the correct port area and run it at its rated rms power with a clean signal. Considering you asked the question to begin with, until you are more familiar with how the product will act and you yourself learn the sounds a failing over powered woofer will make, stick to the factories recommendations. Keep your ears listening for things and your nose sniffing for odd smells.
