arcaudioman Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 Hey guys I'm running 2500 watts to the bass and 600 to mids and highs, I currently drop to mid 10s on my voltage with my stock alt, optima yellow top under the hood and stinger spp925 in the trunk. I just ordered a singer 275 amp alternator so my question is being that the alternator supplies voltage what is the point of people using a crap load of batteries? Basic mechanics say batteries are for when the car is off then the alternator takes over once it's running... can someone please explain this to me. Do I have enough battery to support my setup?
Massivespl Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 Batteries are for people who can't fit multi alts... Alt > batt every time Do the big 3 if you haven't already, make sure your grounds are clean and solid. You should be fine with that 275a alt and two batts for what your running c-pillar flat wall 157.11db on music 2 crossfire 8k 4 NSV3 18s 4 crescendo 10s 4 Rockford pro 6.5s Quad excessive amperage 350alts 4 juicebox 3100s
Kyblack76 Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 Run your amp right off your alt and see what happens. Even if you have several alts, you want a buffer, and you will want a reserve if you over pull your from your alt(s). SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold
arcaudioman Posted December 29, 2015 Author Report Posted December 29, 2015 So kyblack76 would you think that I have enough buffer at this point? I made sure to get more alternator than I really needed to have some cushion

Put the alt in, and see what happens, but, yes, imho you should be fine. SMD SUPER SELLER The Burban Build Blazer Build sold Acura trunk build sold
arcaudioman Posted December 29, 2015 Author Report Posted December 29, 2015 Yeah the Hondas eld puts me at 12.2 before bass and my 03 isn't like the new Hondas that stay at 14.4 with the headlights on...
Broke_Audio_Addict Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 Your voltage is going to stay low regardless of how large an alt you put in unless you bypass the eld That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
Kyblack76 Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 Michael should be able to get you to charge higher. By either tricking the regulator, sending you a vcm, or blue box, or just being able to bypass your eld. In fact, i bet he knows, if you gave him the year, make, and model of the car. 12.2 seems awfully low even for any type of gas sipper option. 12.2 isnt even keeping your batteries topped off at all. Im surprised they arent dead. I can see like 13, or so with a eld but going below resting voltage of a 12v battery, that makes zero sense to me. Skullz Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 You want both as was stated by Kyblack, the batteries act a shock absorber so to speak to keep the amp from seeing dangerous spikes in voltage, and having a nice battery bank allows to have some capacity to run with the car off for a small amount of time. 01 Ford focus ZX3 Pioneer AVH-X491BHS PPI PC 4800.2 Morel Maximo 6.5" x2
arcaudioman Posted December 29, 2015 Author Report Posted December 29, 2015 Singer said he's bypassing the eld and my new voltage will be 14.8 consistently. I clamped my amp at the last show at 1150 watts. It's rated at 2500 rms at 1 ohm. Let's see what I can gain when the amp can put out full power! Can't wait
