bdog Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 I can't seems to get my batteries fully charged. My charger uses 14.2 in bulk and absorption mode and drops to 13.8 in float. Instantly after disconnecting from the charger the voltage drops to 12.5 and then to 12.4 some hours later. The batteries sat without full charge for a few months and was as low as 12.2 before being charged. Do I need to charge at a higher voltage ? REP
magillaru Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 Are you charging the whole bank and getting your reading from that? Did you test each one individually? Singer Alternators Team Asshole #anothershittysingerbuild
bdog Posted January 8, 2016 Author Report Posted January 8, 2016 Each one. They all acting the same. REP
magillaru Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 Only thing I can think of is the charger is possibly bad or just giving you a slightly incorrect reading...... Did you try testing with a DMM or another charger? They should be fine sitting for a couple months and they wouldn't all go bad and give the same reading if there was a problem with each batt. Maybe someone else on here has another idea..... Singer Alternators Team Asshole #anothershittysingerbuild
bdog Posted January 8, 2016 Author Report Posted January 8, 2016 Ya I tested with dmm. It's the only large charger I have at the moment. I read that lots of smart chargers go over 15v for a period to give batteries a full charge. Mine does not. REP
Miguels Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 i think your batteries are shot.. even if the charger charges at 13.4 after a few hours the batteries are topped off. they shouldn't drop to 12.2 in a few hours my logshttp://www.stevemead...-my-new-set-up/my blow through loghttp://www.stevemead...future-updates/ 96 ss http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/164094-96-impala-ss-build/
magillaru Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 Still shouldn't be dropping that low. Mine rest at 12.7 and they styed like that all last winter off the charger.....and it was cold. Singer Alternators Team Asshole #anothershittysingerbuild
bdog Posted January 8, 2016 Author Report Posted January 8, 2016 Oh I should mention that I'm charging in below freezing temperatures REP
CleanSierra Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 Get the batteries load tested. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
