2012 Toyota 4Runner SQ+ build

Recommended Posts

Hello all, new guy here. I'm in the middle of an install on my 4Runner. I plan on competing in either IASCA rookie or novice and MECA street, both in SQ and possibly install.

As far as exterior mods there isn't too much. I did a small lift, some larger tires, new wheels, tinted windows, and a couple of other small things. The exterior is pretty much done.

For the system I am doing it on somewhat of a budget until I decide if I enjoy competing. If things work out I'll be doing some upgrades this time next year.

Here is the current plan:

Kenwood DDX372BT head unit with a pioneer camera

JBL MS-8 DSP

PPI P1000.1 amp

PPI P600.2 amp

PPI P900.4 amp

PPI P65c3 component set

PPI P.652 coax's

JL Audio 12w3v3 subs (3)

Wiring is a mix of Sky High and Soundqubed.

Head unit installed, all wires soldered with heat shrink.

Next was building a pair of pillars to house the tweeters. This was my first attempt. They aren't perfect but over all I am very happy with them.

The last part I have complete is the sub enclosure. This was my first time using a router and a brad gun. I'm not sure how I ever lived without either of them. They just make life so much better.

So that's all for now. I'll be back to work on it this weekend.

Looks good but I'd ditch thr coax. That 3 way set is nice though.

The coax's are for rear fill only. They should do fine for that.

I managed to make a little progress today.

First off, out with the old...

Next it was time to do a little sound deadening. It was cold out so I ended up letting the car run the entire time while using a heat gun. Kind of off topic, but how often do you get to say "I burned my ass cheek on a heat gun today"?

Before.

After.

I put most of the interior back together. I'm working on some other things tomorrow so I didn't see any reason to finish it up.

Progress is going slow but at least I'm making some.

First off was installing rivet nuts to give me something to bolt my new "floor" down.

If you look close you can see all six.

Next was mounting the sub box.

This shows the wiring inside the box, nothing special.

Here is the amp rack, has cutouts for wire and for four fans.

Here is a picture of the back to show the t-nuts.

Amp rack mounted. Unfortunately the security screws I purchased aren't long enough to mount the amps so I get to spend some more money. :D
