Windows 10 "upgrade" USB Key

Recommended Posts

Once you have done the upgrade process your hardware profile is locked in. Meaning you can change out your drive and do a fresh install at that point. You can not do a fresh install until you have done the upgrade unless you bought Windows 10

You need a license to have an activated copy for a virgin Win 10 installation. You can certainly use the USB stick to install it, it just won't activate as it would if you were installing as an upgrade.

If you do a clean Win 7 install first, activate it using any means other than a Multi Volume License Key (one that a school or govt establishment would issue), and then upgrade with the USB stick, you'll have an activated clean Win 10 install.

I downloaded it on my laptop and created the USB on my laptop, and it was installed on my desktop it activated just fine for me.

However my hardware was once already activated with Win10Pro on release, and I suffered from poor performance and went back to Win7 ultimate.

A couple months later is when I did another fresh install using the same usb flashdrive that was downloaded and created on my laptop.
