Floyd341 Posted March 7, 2016 Report Posted March 7, 2016 Purchased 2 JL12W3s, and a 1000 watt JL amp. Will I need a better battery, or a better alternator to run these 2 12's pulling 1000 watts?
Broke_Audio_Addict Posted March 7, 2016 Report Posted March 7, 2016 What vehicle is this in? That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.
Floyd341 Posted March 7, 2016 Author Report Posted March 7, 2016 84 GMC single cab Truck. Nothing is hooked up yet, custom box is being built. I want to ensure my investment isn't blown. I heard just changing the old pos&neg from current battery makes a huge difference. Or what about a Capacitor? Thanks

You can rebuild yours or grab an aftermarket one cheap enough, go for it dude. but i'd personally grab like a suburban or escalade AD244 from a junkyard if there's such a thing as a conversion kit, or even a CS144 upgrade. The CS130's are weak pepe even in fully built form. Do the alt (doesn't need to be crazy), do the big 3, and it'll essentially double your electrical potential. Don't trust a shop but you personally just smoked two decks, makes sense. 03' Trailblazer LTDayton Designer 6.5"s & Silkie tweetersDayton Audio Ultimax 18"Pioneer 9601 & 8604XS Power D34002 runs 1/0Singer 250
Floyd341 Posted March 7, 2016 Author Report Posted March 7, 2016 Just looking. Some of those alternators cost 400+ Also just looked under the hood, it's all 8 gauge wiring. I'm gonna do the Big 3 wiring deal myself before everything gets installed, and see what the installer says about needing more juice. Never thought I would need a 400$ alternator. What you said about just running a bigger battery? Isn't it really all about the alternator and the amps it produces constantly?
3vil Posted March 7, 2016 Report Posted March 7, 2016 Seems with ask the room under the hood, multiple factory alts would be cheaper than 1 custom unit
boom50cal Posted March 7, 2016 Report Posted March 7, 2016 see if you can find a interally regulated ford 3g alt. 130 amp. i know they've been stuck on smallblocks. hot rodder's favorite junkyard alt On 1/4/2013 at 9:31 PM, HatersGonnaHate said: Wow. 184 posts and I think you're a fucking asshole.
rockFord_Expedition Posted March 7, 2016 Report Posted March 7, 2016 If all you're doing is playing music your amp won't ever make 1000 watts. Rough math in my head says you'll need between 30-40 amps of current at 14 volts for that amp if you're really pushing it on music. I have no idea what your stock electrical is like, but at minimum I'd say you need the big 3 and you're probably borderline for needing an alt upgrade. x infektid x Posted March 13, 2016 Report Posted March 13, 2016 an over built alt for 1000 watts?? only if you really like your voltage to be high but all cars are going to have a voltage drop when playing.. if like the other guy said the alt is known for being weak. i may look into something better . but you may have a good one so . only time will tell . if my ears dont buzz. you need more ..
