reedal Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 You can try it, but typically once the magical smoke comes out, that's all she wrote. Best case scenario, it still works and the smoke was a special effect Worst case scenario, fried amplifier SMD Tool Map https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/193176-smd-tool-map-new-november-2014/ Build log https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/197217-reeds-03-tahoe-hat-sqaq-singer-xs-shca-cockbox-80prs/?page=32
audiofanaticz Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 4.8ohms through 12 awg speaker wire seems way way way too high!
3vil Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 Dude, slow down. I'm pretty sure you killed your amp by wiring the load too low. Then you stabbed two different subs because you cannot take a screw out without turning into Jason Voorhees. Take a nap, then take your time and BE CAREFUL.
STEvil Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 4.8ohms through 12 awg speaker wire seems way way way too high! He was measuring with subs connected, def needs to sllooooooooow doooowwwwn. Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.
Aztahoe99 Posted March 8, 2016 Author Report Posted March 8, 2016 Ya yesterday was shitty k worked midmight to 4pm then began this nightmare . I think the battwry in my multimeter was dieing touch the leads together it was 2.6 the subs are reading 1.1 now that i double checked. through some contact cement on the foam surrounds hopefully they last. Ill check on the fireworks Amp later today after work hopefully it works. Between the last month ive had one day off working 14 to 16 hrs a day buildi NH the sub box workin on my girls jeep, i could use a day of sleep. Thx gentlemen
STEvil Posted March 9, 2016 Report Posted March 9, 2016 if the contact cement gives out use some Shoe Goo. Put it on both sides and in the crack and make sure to give it a day to dry. Aztahoe99 Posted March 9, 2016 Author Report Posted March 9, 2016 So i tried the.amp agaim and its shorting out internally. Hopefully i.can get it warrantied. I called sq and asked if it.would be bad for the subs to run my old 1000 watt amp which would be underpowering them by a long shot. They told me noy to worry about it and it wouldd actually be good to break em in on this amp. Lets just say since i blew my 10 yr old alpines 4 months ago i finally have a smile on my face. U guys here rock i appreciate all the advice and guidance.
