Will my alt push it?

Instead of going to mazda forums, how about getting quotes from the companies we use...

So, after searching mazda forums and the interwebs, a single 170A alt...IS $600 WHAT?!?!?!? I'm not spending THAT much on an alt! Maybe if I was into comps, but for my daily setup? FUCK THAT!

Now what? Can I or can't I run 1kw? I'm learning that there isn't much of an audible difference between 500w and 1000w...so if it's not worth it I'll go with 500w, and beat the hell out of one 12 as best I can with 500w.

There will be a definitive difference between 500w and 1000w. If it was the difference between 7000w and 7500w, no, probably nothing really noticeable.

From what I understand, it's around a 3dB increase....so, if that's the case, it's not worth the $600 for an alt that will push 1000w, or 3dB.

No, that is a THEORETICAL number.

And an alt isn't 600 for your mazda...

Care to elaborate? You say that the difference between 500w and 1000w are noticable, but doubling your power nets you a 3dB gain in optimal full sphere directivity conditions before mechanical losses through radiation, which is for all intents and purposed completely inaudible to the human ear. I'd love to learn more.

Don't trust a shop but you personally just smoked two decks, makes sense.

with low wattage systems you might be able to tell.. i went from 500 to 1000 and there was a deference.. when it comes to high power amps 500 watts you wont hear the deference

I'm lost as to why yall are telling him he needs an alt for a 1500w system, I'd run a decent agn or two and call it a day. But then again I'm not one who freaks the fuck out when voltage drops to 13.0 either.

id do a 200a alternator.. you gotta pay to play

if you dont want to spend to keep your equipment happy then car audio is not for you

THIS* Best statement made so far!

Its your car, do what you want. You come here looking for answers and answers you got. Either take this information and put it to use or ignore this information and learn for yourself. Good luck with whatever you do!

I'll do body filler all day every day, but this reinforced, fortified fucking kitty hair can kiss my balls.

personally I think this is the best comment

It's a daft comment, because at full output his alternator barely produces enough current to maintain vehicle functions. He's going to fry his alternator AND his battery if he tries to throw even a small system into this car, no question about it. Just drop in a decent AGM or two? Not only will that cost as much if not MORE than a decent alt, but the batteries will die in the first year because they'll be constantly undercharged and sulfonated. I don;t think you grasp how little current his stock alternator is able to produce.

You sure about that? My old system saw under 10v quite a few times and took it like a champ. And lol at thinking you have to spend $600+ for 2 batts, I paid $90 ea for 7 group 34 dekas
