So had 1 set of hertz 1650.3 components. Had volume on hu up to 35 which is max at a bonfire for a buddies funeral. The tweeters blew. I had components set on highpass on amp to 80. And the hu was set to flat all accross the board.

My next question is and may sound stupid but ill ask it anyways. If have 2x component set will it be twice as loud with vol set to 30 eliminating the need to set hu to 35 with one component set speakers? Or will the sound just become more full?

Next question whats a good set of tweets that have decent sq but wont blow when hu is set to max. Thanks in advance for the help.

No, your headunit can only supply so many watts, and you'll be sharing that power between two sets of components. You would want to pickup an amp if you were going to run 2 sets.

Also, have you checked the signal output of the headunit to know that you have CLEAN signal at max volume. Many HU's will have distortion on the high level outputs (speaker wire not the rca's).

Think he said he does have them on an amp. OP you can't just add another set of speakers and make it "twice as loud". Sound doesn't work like that, otherwise there would be a lot of people on this forum reaching 180+ db by just doubling what they had before. Now I'm not saying that you wouldn't notice a difference. Depending on where the extra set of components were placed, you might have a different "feel" of sound in the vehicle, but you wouldn't necessarily be that much louder. As 3vil stated you need check and make sure that you have clean power going to the components.

Ok still new to all this. Head unit is 2 volt. With rca outputs. Its a kenwood.nav deck. And i have ofc twisted triple shielded rca cables.

A car audio installer said that my hertz mille 1650.3 component speakers werent meant to be played at max. But inwanted a second opinion. Whats a good way to make sure i have clean signal at max volume. Is that matching gain on amplifier with the head units voltage?

Is this a serious question?

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

That's exactly what you need to do is match the voltage from the head unit to that of the amp. Find someone who has a DD-1 or buy one. Sounds like you might have had ur tweeters clipping to shit. Components don't usually blow, but if they are amped, then most likely something wasn't set right.

A dd-1 isn't going to help a damn thing when he cranks a song that's clipped to hell.

I wouldn't even use a dd-1 on my mids and highs amp but that's just me.......

most of the headunits give 4X17W or 22W RMS, there is no way you will be able to turn on the volume up to the max, and get clean signal to your speakers.. I sold a lot of focal 165KP2 kevlar series which were a excellent set of component from focal, pushing by a kenwood KDC X494 headunit, even if I set the high pass cross over on the headunit, there will be a a limit to not exceed before the speakers give bad signal.. I would highly recommend a good 4 ch amp... to set the cross over properly..

I actually have the dd-1 and every time I set my HU(Kenwood xcelon x993) max volume is at 35, the distortion led comes on ONLY for a second after I pass 31 and same thing happens til 35.. does this mean I CAN run max volume with the HU w/o distortion? that's of course after setting the amps max gain with the HU volume at 35
