Would this actually work?

So after one of my late night box designing escapades, i ended up with this. It takes 80 (yes, 80) sundown x6.5 subs, coming out to 0.186ft^3 per sub after displacement on the sealed sides (sundown recommends 0.15ft^3), and exactly double that on the ported side. I just used a 2 inch roundover pvc around the port exit. So i guess my main question is would this theoretically work? I know it's just for fun but i figured what the hell lol.

I don't know if this would actually work but it sure is interesting! If it did, would be neat to hear what it sounds like and see what it would actually look like in person.

Well i'll give you permission to use the design, just fork over $14000 for 80 6.5s lol. It would be pretty awesome to hear it actually play, and cone area actually more that 8 18s. Plus it will slide into the back of a suburban and still be behind the 2nd row.

If I had 14K just laying around begging to be spent then I would definitely consider your offer! Lots of cone area and doesn't totally give up the functionality of your car? Sounds good to me...aside from the ridiculous cost! I wonder what the low range output of these drivers would be. What are the ports tuned to?

So i just read that entire thread and i am extremely upset that i didn't think of this first lol. and a 156? i was expecting it to be in the 160s. Maybe it's just a really inefficient design?

I imagine the sealed up mic on dash score would be low since you have two sound sources more or less fighting each other. I bet if you were to seal up the passenger side compartment the score would go up. It probably wouldn't demo as well though...who knows haha

That design certainly is interesting. Whether or not it will work probably depends on your definition of "work".

I have no doubt that it will make noise, however the layout of the ported sections make it unlikely they will perform as Helmholtz resonators (like a regular ported box does). Most likely they are going to function like short transmission lines tuned to around 66 Hz. You are likely to get a peak in output at that frequency and below that the box is going to perform like a regular sealed box.

While it may have more cone area than eight 18's, its not going to have more swept volume due to the relatively low Xmax (16mm) those subs have vs what most 18's have. At frequencies where output is limited by cone excursion the 18's are going to stomp all over that box.
