DavidClark
I have 3 alternators total in my 2004 Yukon, the alternator in the stock location is wired using the factory 3 wire oval plug. (i'm good here) My 2 other alts are using my radio remote wire to turn them on, (they are on only when the radio is on) the remote wire goes to a relay that is grounded, and has a positive that runs to the battery. My question is; Is using my radio remote turn allowing my alts to work correctly? is there a better way to wire my alts ? Clownrock95
I would say no but I'm not to savy on this kind of thing I would think it would be best to let the vehical control all 3 and if you need 2 to be I would say it better to hook the radio to a relay the interrupts the vehicals control if that makes sence
rocking.that.eclipse
I'd tap into the fuse box and grab something out of there personally. What I'm doing soon is tapping into the fuse box then also running a switch. This means that the alts will be on when the car is running or if I chose they will be off. But no matter how you do it it's off when the car is off
ShadeTreeMechanic
Why would you need to turn them off when the car is running? They are only going to put out 14.7 volts. It is the state of charge of the battery that determines how much current it gets. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)

audiofanaticz
I just have tapped into my factory wire for the plug, relayed it out to all 3 alts so they all turn on at the same time. Whats the point of having them spin if they aint doing anything to maintain the battery bank even when your not bumping since your still causing wear on the alternators bearings and brushes. ShadeTreeMechanic
The only reason to turn off any alts while running I could think of would be if the bank was very low on charge. Like demoing with the engine off or something. The recharge rate on AGMs needs to be limited so the hydrogen gas that is generated during recharge has time to re absorb into the electrolyte. If too much gas is generated too quickly, it will cause the case to swell and possibly crack. The AGM mode on a battery charger tapers the current as the battery reaches its peak voltage. 91 C350 Centurion conversion ( Four Door One Ton Bronco) 250A Alternator (Second Alternator Coming Soon) G65 AGM Up Front / Two G31 AGM in Back Pioneer 80PRS CT Sounds AT125.2 / CT Sounds 6.5 Strato Pro component Front Stage CT Sounds AT125.2 / Lanzar Pro 8" coax w/compression horn tweeter Rear Fill FSD 5000D 1/2 ohm (SoundQubed 7k Coming Soon) Two HDS315 Four Qubes Each 34hz (Two HDC3.118 and New Box Coming Soon)
DavidClark
Thank you guys for responses, I'm going to eliminate the radio remote turn on. rocking.that.eclipse
I just have tapped into my factory wire for the plug, relayed it out to all 3 alts so they all turn on at the same time. Whats the point of having them spin if they aint doing anything to maintain the battery bank even when your not bumping since your still causing wear on the alternators bearings and brushes. I am having it wired that way one for safety reasons. I've had 2 alts cook on me so far with 6 inch flames coming out. Also my truck isn't blessed with enough hp to spin all the alts if I have any other accessories running. So if i decide that i want ac for a little bam pop off the alts and run the ac. the one other thing is that I don't like running my alts if the batts are low. I'd like to get the batts charged back up and then turn on the alts. Just all my personal preferences... to each their own.
