06RTCharger
Anyone use this set up for car audio? Im trying to find the pros and cons to it. Just wondering how that route has worked out for others. Example would be running a cat5 cable from a bit-ten dsp (cat5 out) to an audison amp (cat5 in). Then from the amp, regular speaker wire to the speakers. This is assuming your running a toslink from headunit to bit-ten also. Attempting to keep the signal pure digital all the way till it leaves the amp to the speaker. Thanks for any helpful input! Remember, you dont have to reply if u think this is a dumb question thanks. Krakin
I'm sure it just keeps it digital so that the pre-amp on the amplifier can boost the voltage correctly instead of increasing the voltage before transmission. I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . . What you hear is not the air pressure variation in itself but what has drawn your attention in the two streams of superimposed air pressure variations at your eardrums An acoustic event has dimensions of Time, Tone, Loudness and Space Everyone learns to render the 3-dimensional localization of sound based on the individual shape of their ears, thus no formula can achieve a definite effect for every listener. n8ball2013
Biggest issue would probably be noise. You'd have to buy shielded cat5 if think. Soccerballzs
Alot of test test using the cat 5 and tosilink cable in SQ pages. Come to find out the tosilink did not have a constant output like rca wires. In car audio they have found rca is the way to go from headunit to dsp. It is still copper wire at heart You don't have to worry about noise in almost all cases in a digital transmission. It is transmitting a 1 or a 0, the only thing you would have to worry about with Cat 5e cable is the length of the transmission, if you needed something over 500ft you might look into Cat 7, but I have done digital systems with almost a mile with little degradation in signal integrity using Cat 5e. You can only lose signal quality in a digital transmission if and only if the packet of data is just not received. Not to mention Cat 5e cable is cheap and super easy to rewire to whatever length you need. The only thing ive read negaitve with toslink is the jitter, but that has to do with the "word clock" getting bad timing when running between multiple digital things. This car audio stuff is fkn mind boggling and stressful lol. Thats the downside of having perfectionist tendencies.
