2000 wrms do I need Alternator upgrade

Recommended Posts

So basically I am wondering if I need a Mechman upgrade? What I want is a 14.4v AGM battery for the system, and a standard car battery with an isolator for starting only. I have an Audiopipe 1500d (running 2ohm) for the sundown subs, and a Rockford Fosgate prime R150X2 running the mids and highs. I have it up and running now with 1 battery and stock alt, but I don't bump it hard because I'm worried about the electrical. If I can't do both at the same time which should I do first? (I assume the alt...)

I'm thinking about the lowest Mechman 240amp Alt for Chevrolet Trucks and SUVS. Ride is a 1997 Tahoe 2 door, 2 wheel drive.

I currently have a 2,000 set up with a group 34 up front and big three the only time i get dangerous voltage drops is at night with heat and headlights on, ill be adding aa rear battery, my stock alternator is 90 amps so im borderline i eventually plan on getting th new alt so i can utilize the full power of the set up but you should be find depending on the amp some are super power hungry.

You should be fine with an extra battery. I'd look into replacing that Audiopipe amplifier before anything else.

I bought the amp because of this

He is using one of Steves amp dynos. Seems great for a cheap amp. We will see how long it lasts. I will replace it if it ever fails.

You bought it because it does less than rated? Either way, with 2 batteries you might be ok. See what your voltage does on 2 batteries before upgrading the alt.
