I am currently running a single 12" sub in a ported enclosure. I'm pleased with it for the most part but have seen guys like Mr. 6.5" do good numbers with small subs and HO enclosures. I've seen that one dude hit almost 150 with a single 10" Sundown in an Accord.

I would like to do a budget build ($200-$300) total with multiple sealed subs. (3) 10's / (2) or (3) 12's or (2) 15's.

I've heard cone area is king but I know ported enclosures offer higher output.

Anyone have any advice or am I better off to donate that money to charity and keep what I have?

Working with 1200 watts @ 1 ohm. Not opposed to run 600 watts @ 2 ohms if I need to accommodate cheaper subs. 2.75 cubes roughly to spare.

I ran a single T1 12" in a ported enclosure tuned to high. (mistake when i built it) so i want to do 2 10's but was limited to about 3 cubes as well. It was the biggest box i could build and install in my trunk of a 03 Lancer. I used 2 HDS 310 and never really been happy with it. Mainly the subs because the box design is solid. I built a properly tuned box for the T2 12" to put in the wife malibu and it sounds great. Getting about 1k to it and i love how it sounds in her ride with her system. 

I would like to get  better subs (Sundown or Fi) and build a new enclosure to see if that works more to my liking. 

As for your question about sealed enclosure with multiple subs i think its all in preference to what you like better and what your goals for your system are. I don't know if o would ever do sealed myself. It would have to be a tight space and no other option for me to go that route. But if your into experimenting and have the $ then why not.

From just about everything I have read is the enclosure Is the most important to sound quality and SPL. That is why guys are getting high numbers with small subs and power. I am so impressed by these guys but I don't have the time to be building multiple enclosures for testing. If you have the time and resources that would be my advice. Build, test, build test. That is the only real way to find out what will put out the most SPL for your ride. You could most likely get your single 12 to be loud in the right box. JMO

I guess my question really is can multiple sealed subs have the output of a single ported sub? Obviously 12 sealed subs will out do a single ported but what is the sweet spot? Is it 3...4?

OSG - I thought the same thing about the box. I guess my reason for wanting to experiment with multiple sealed subs is the "consistency" of a sealed enclosure. I don't have the ability to test multiple variations of ported enclosures.
