Help me determine where it starts clipping on my oscope wave

Hi guys,

I'm retuning my system right now with a Velleman Oscope. 

I'm having trouble determining which point in the wave is clipping and where I should stop on the gain.

Test tone used: 40 Hz @ -2.5 dB 

My previous tune max volume I went with 27 but for this time around I decided to try 26 volume as my max to play it safe.

Some issues I had, my Velleman oscope voltage vs the DMM had a minor difference in readings. I went with the DMM reading when I went to tune my SSF.

Here's an image of what it looks like after I set the filters on the SSF and 80hz on the LPF headunit. Seems to be outputting way less power when I played my 40Hz -2.5dB tone after filters were set:

Here's what it looked like after I used butterworth equation to set my SSF. A 30Hz -2.5dB test tone was used for setting the SSF

I set my SSF 5Hz below my box tuning (Box is tuned to 35 Hz and I set the SSF to 30Hz).

I just went for a test drive and this new tune sounds like shit. :(

My original tune setup was louder then this. Right now it's probably way underpowering the subs.

Back to the drawing board

If the wave continues to look like normal you haven't begun to clip yet.

Keep turning the gain until you notice the wave deforming and clipping the top and bottom off.

Tune it to the point you see an ever so slight deforming sound wave, that should be a tad above 1% which is perfectly fine.

Should I just go old school and do the good old DMM method 

Power =  (V^2) / Resistance

Power = (70.7^2) / 1 Ohm

Power = 4998 Watts

So then I should just turn the gain up until i see 70.7 Volts AC? The only really important thing is to find the headunit's max volume before clipping right? 

This is so lame. I'll probably just go back and retune again with a 40Hz -5dB test tone and call it good. After all of the filters kick in it probably won't even use the full 5k watts.

 

What's kinda BS is right now I have an oscope and a DMM and they have a 5 voltage difference in readings :(

i just find it hard to determine when the wave is 'clipped' or how much is too much clipping. These Velleman handheld scopes are a lot harder to see compared to the lunch boxes we had at school

 

For example, is this clipping?

It shouldn't be clipping here though right because it's only pushing about 4984.36 wrms

How much clipping is too much... These waves on the oscope all look the same to me.

Thanks. I wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one having issues eye balling this shit to find the tip of the wave. I bought this damn Velleman HPS10SE  years ago for a couple hundred dollars because someone recommended it. I wish I just got the Fluke 123.

For scopes like this and tpi440 plus where the resolution is low, turn it WAY up where you actually see a big square wave and then back it down. Seeing 1 or two pixels next to each other flat doesnt really mean shit (due to resolution).
