Audacity to check for clipping?

Recommended Posts

i have been using audacity with the "detect clipping" on and looking for red " clipped" notes, and i have been informed this is not the best way to insure your songs are not clipped

but i want to know if i am not trying to alter or fix anything as far as clipping is audacity a good way to simply check if a song is ok to play?

and i know most use media player but i do not have the eyes for it and the wave forms move way to fast for me to tell

i am just curious if i check a song on audacity and there is no red/clipped notes am i good to play them

Audacity is not the fix all people think it is, once a track is clipped and distorted it is trash, it is the same principle as compressing a track and thinking you can just restore it back to a wave format, wrong.

You need something that can see the sound waves real time to see whether you have true clipping or something that was put in the track by the producer, windows media player is a great program to use to see if a track is indeed clipped and if so how badly it is clipped.

Soft clipping is fine as long as you do not drive the amp to the point it is distorting and clipping itself.

You're over thinking this. If you have your system tuned correctly, and you aren't putting 3x times the power in your subs clipping won't do shit.

This was what I was thinking but everyone seems so scared of a clipped track like its the end of the world I just figured I'd ask.
