huntb
So turns out i'm really into this whole car audio thing. I have been installing my friends systems for about 4 years now but I have never been able to understand the entire concept behind vented enclosures. I have an Orion H2 12.2 and I'm gonna need a new box, the one I have right now is gonna ruin my sub with the new amp I just bought. I just purchased a Kenwood KAC-9152D (yeah cheap but decent, I'm a broke college kid) I need box specs for more biased toward SPL but SQ counts too. The box I have right now is 2.1 ft^3 and ported with a 3 in round by 3.5-4" deep... Much too high for the excursion limit. The basket volume is 0.39 ft^3 and the specifications for the sub are found at..... http://orioncaraudio.com/Support/Manuals/S...ual%2027306.pdf Any help with a box would be muuuuuch appreciated. EricM9104
What do you mean much too high for the excursion limit? Is it bottoming out? Sounds like that box you have now is tuned around 40Hz. huntb
Yeah its tuned to about 38-40 Hz. If I throw that new amp in bridged to 1 ohm the sub's most likely going to bottom out at frequencies below 30-32 Hz. Ther is a subsonic filter on the amp, but only cuts up to 25 Hz and lower. Any help on a new box design would be much appreciated, I'm looking to do a vented application.

When the sub plays a frequency lower then the box tuning, it will bottom out, hence why a sub-sonic filter exists. Only thing I can think of is building a new box tuned to 32-35Hz. wL<3bass
35hz will get you decent lows but still have the "loud" your looking for....personally I love the painful lows.
